Ireland 2014

It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Actually meant Whiting or Mackeral and not Flounder, would'nt mind getting some Plaice this year as I only had a couple of small ones
last season.

well we know the spot for them :)
Not a sign of Mackies anywhere.... not even our "garaunteed spot" first time without mackies in the harbour for a loooooooooong time.
Just as well I still have a few frozen.

Was in the English market today and the guy with the big fish stall was selling wild bass at 18kg, thought it was a big no no?
Can he sell it if it proven to not come from Irish waters?

No, you should have taken a pic. He'd be hard pushed to prove where it came from...
was it 18lb or kg... thats pretty big!!

I found this lad (dead) on the beach while walking the dogs today.

He was around five and a half feet long, weighing at a guess 100lbs plus. There were marks like bites of some kind on his head and body but these could possibly have been made by the two crows that were there when I found him first, or by the raven that was there when I got back from the car with my camera.

I run into schools of dolphin now and again when I'm freediving offshore from the kayak. I think maybe this was a young male killed in fighting but who knows? I first spotted him from a distance and seeing mainly his tail I thought I'd found an albacore. Would have been a nice one if it was eh?:hungry::hungry::LOL::LOL:

I did wonder if that was the case as the same thing has happened to me a time or two. If it was that he would have had to have been sick or something, dolphins being pretty strong swimmers.

Think its getting to that time of year when i start dusting off and patching up my gear.. only a few more weeks and i might venture in go a mooch around. Anyone been out yet around Cork?

Bought a new band, spear and line for my gun, not that much more to buy a complete gun without the reel

Not yet but I'm hankering for a sesh... I kinda doing a 9-5 these days so I'd be looking at weekends or evenings. Would want to be near guaranteed viz tho... Got new band, line and knife around Xmas ready to go...
Maybe u could find us some viz Craig then tell me and I'll venture forth?
Must. Get some scallops too before summer.

I've a bust shoulder so no diving or anything fun for the moment, also working 8 till 4 everyday so no more day dives mid week. Hopefully should improve before the closed season kicks in.

Would say the viz will start to clear up over next week or two by the looks of the forecast. Abit of sw winds but still not looking to bad
