Today he was attempting a 35m Constant Weight dive but unfortunately was disqualified for a rule violation before the dive. I think he also had equalisation problems and didn't make the depth. But he was still smiling at the end of the day.

I think the shock for all was that Feargus wasn't the only Irishman there! Brian Daly also competed and had a successful 30m Constant Weight Dive and 35m Free Immersion dive, which I think are both Irish records. Word on the street is that they're both working on an Irish team...

hi,
my first ever spearfished fish. fished couple weeks ago in Dalkey. took me 3 hours to find fish and speared. i found lot of small pollock , size was to small. i try to go out more this week. hope get more luck. :friday

hi guys! Yesterday in Beara Peninsula i cutch conger,i was tryed before many years ago smoked eel from fresh water ,but i dont know how is better cooking conger from sea,is it test good or bad?

it was nothing special in taste - very ordinary taste. nice white fish meat, very little of fish bones.
pollack taste to me much nicer. my family like to eat fish. i eat all kind of fish.

Hi Thunder, have you any photos of the eel? How big was it?
They are not the same to eat as a freshwater eel but are still good to eat. Once they are more than a few pounds weight they get difficult to kill and they can bite a bit too.

hi guys i'm away at the mo and havent had much chance to get online. phishfood its not that i dont like mullet more their eating habits. but i think my attitude towards them is changing because they seem to be popular enough.

I went back yesterday, to the same rock as on Sunday. This time it was low tide and midweek so no angling boats. I dived the same mark but saw only fish to three pounds this time, so after an hour I went back inshore to try "poking around" behind the point, near some 300ft cliffs.
I discovered that the point is only one of a series of ridges running west from the headland. The other ridges are underwater.
I found small fish (up to 3lb again) on the first couple of ridges then hit the jackpot trying one out in the current.
The shoal I found this time were much bigger. I shot three fish of 6.5, 4.9, and 4.5lbs, then stopped shooting to wait for bigger fish.From here on I'll take only big fish for a while, as we have plenty in the freezer.(pollack anyway).
None appeared and after a while I just did some exploring round the rocks.
The new fins worked really well in the current.

Donnachad, guess uve got access to bass so i understand
leaving the mullet but its defo worth a try! id given up on
pollack as an eating fish but reading this thread has given
me an appetite to try it again. nice catch sunfish!!

its good forecast for Sunday. any body going to Hook Head. where is good place to spear around there?

Hi Danas, on Sunday and on Wednesday my deepest dive would have been around 10 metres but most fish on Wednesday were taken at around 6 to 7 metres. I was diving to rest in the kelp, on top of a ridge, at that depth. The channels in between the ridges were 13-14metres and the fish would rise up to look over the ridges. The current was fairly strong and I had to swim just to stay in one place on the surface.
The place is important. Once you find big pollack in a place they'll come back there at other times. Sometimes they like a small area which seems no different to the areas around it.
I think the best way to find them is to choose rocky areas, around 7 to 14 metres deep. If it's in or near an area of tidal current that's even better. Just keep making a dive then swimming a bit then diving again. Eventually you should find some fish. If you want big ones, ignore the small ones. Let them swim all around you and be careful not to scare them. If a shoal come towards you, the bigger ones will be the last ones to come near. They let the smaller ones take all the risks!

Conger is great to eat but a pain in the a**e to catch! I will try and find a couple of Spanish recipes for you, will have to translate so be patient!
