Ireland Spearing 2013

It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Not a bad idea to get one but not sure I would get the use out of it given the conditions we have had the last couple of years.
Would'nt fancy being out in open sea with abit of chop.

will have to keep an eye on Donedeal though

cheers rob...dont know much about engines, as you can tell... that is a good deal for 250euro... saw a few 3 and 3.5 hp engines for sale... would there be much difference in them...weight wise and power...

depends on the make and model, some of them may weigh the same and just be bored bigger for extra hp.
Power wise you wont see much of a difference. Or speedwise for that matter.
A bigger engine may be fine on your boat, but you gotta imagine that the manufacturers put that rating there for a reason.

And Chealy I can think of many bays that have calm seas even in bad weather and a little boat can give you a nice edge. To drive to places or hope out an d take a break, bit of food etc.

I used to take the kayak from roches point to guileen and there be plenty of fishies in there that fishermen or boats havent touched in years ;)

I paddled out on the kayak to a good few spots, spent a good bit of time in the Bass closed season around the Old head as it's sheltered from the SW.

That is until it started splitting every time I blew it up..

lucky we didnt already get an engine so... gonna go with the recommended hp...were only gonna be using it for spearfishing and a bit of rod fishing anyway...wont be goin out in anything too choppy... gonna use it the same as the kayak but have the engine for comfort... just need the weather now

if you have your heart set on a kayak i posted a link to the one we got on page one... we had no probs with it leaking... has 2 seats but if your goin alone you would have more room for spearing gear...id recommend it... its a pity we only sold it week and half ago if i knew you were interested i could have kept it for a few weeks... we were in no real rush to sell it...

I just bought one there...
Navigator III Schlauchboot Set 284 x 132 cm/280 kg | eBay

I paid 130 for it 3 years ago with 50 euro delivery.

I think I got a bargin now for 100Euro....

Keep an eye on the seller, there are more for auction.... great value but can only take a max of 3hp engine. Which if fine cos 5euro petrol gives you about 10 hours driving and diving :)

49 euro.

I have the outboard bracket, pumps, seats and oars already. Made sense to get the same model again.

nice one....gonna have to pimp out our one before we use it.... order some bungee and make a few rod holders...my brother actually caught a nice size pollock last year trolling some feathers off the back of his dive float...gonna do the same off the boat... rod off each side

I have a Sevylor that I bought second hand for £130 including all the kit. It's great for the family as can easily get 2 adults and 2 small children in it. Pumped up in under 10 mins I do plan to use it for diving under some inaccessible cliffs which I get the chance. I've just been using the dive hunter loads. I think it's a great piece of kit with food and water etc on it and it can really cover the ground when lying on it. I would probably recommend one of these before a kayak unless you are planning big distances. (You may already have one for all I know!)
Just my 2p!
Anybody on here use an inflatable kayak, bought one last year which I sent back after a couple of months but looking to get another with a budget of around 400 euro.

Looked at the plastic ones but prefer the option of packing it small.

Wow ain't been on here in a long time, and hav'nt been in the water here since August!!! A very belated happy new year to everyone and good luck for this year. I've missed a few training sessions with illness but hope to get back into it soon. So what are peps ambitions for the coming season ??? I'm still looking for that elusive Octopus or Red Mullet but there is hope Johnny up north got one last year so its possible. I didn't see ant triggers on the thread last year but I suppose at least we had a John Dory.
Well done to Danas on his Norwegian adventure can't wait to see a Wolfish or Halibut come on Daniel.
And now for something completely different :D My Galician friends were over at Christmas and if it swims they eat it, I've tried Percebes Its ok but I dont think its worth €120 a kilo. This time they were raving about a special type of fish which is only available for a short time each year anyway after much translating we agreed it was this Sea lamprey | Projects . I see the river lampreys (a much smaller non migrating species) spanwing every year in my local river but I've never seen these guys just wondering if anyone knows a river they run up ??????
Why am I bothering you ask ?? Well they say its gorgeous like a cross between fish and black pudding and I cant resist that pairing. Plus I've been trying to eat sustainable "wild" food wherever possible and this is one fish that's definitely not overfished. I've talked to my fishmonger and he says he has seen fish with Lamprey scars but presumes the boats throw them straight back over. Incidentally bought two big Gurnard the other week and removed 6 whole large intact Dublin Bay Prawns from ones throat and stomach!! Neal

Hi Neal,

when i was a kid , we used to catch them in a rivers under bridges in late spring. with hands :) taste them all sort of ways - cooked , fried , marinated .... but best taste is cold smoked. it taste like smoke dab eel. wich is so delicious !!!
my Norwegian adventures still on ... Fxxx , but some times I think that i'm not in Norway !!! nothing impressive , maybe is time of year , or we doing something not right. only think is here is viz. at least 7-8 metres at any time .

10lb....just leave those juveniles alone :D :D :D

It´s mainly a freediving/spearfishing training where the first 30 minutes we will do some exercices outside the pool and after for 1 hour some pool exercices. The price is divided between all the members attending. We set up to run this when we have a group of at least 9 elements so it will be around 17€ each. With maybe 12 going this time it will be 12.75€ each. Just as a quick remind we are talking about a pool without chlorine about 25meters per 25meters and 5 meters deep in all the surface...! I got amazed and all the exercice was really good :)

Hello everyone I'm Peter and I am the owner of Tecnoblu Genoa Italy.
This summer I will come on holiday in your country and I want to spend 5 days of my holidays with fishing.
I would need as much information as possible and a few spots where I could immerse in tranquility.
Can you help?
If there was an opportunity to share with someone a few days of fishing, I would be honored.
Greetings Piero
