well done Rob , very unusual for this time of year .
I was out couple time in last month with really impressive results . there is couple pictures ,cod 8.1 kg and biggest place of just over 3kg. I have realised why in Norway have much more fish close to shore then Ireland.... in Norway is no seals , who eating all shoreline fishes . I'm here a year with and done over 50 dives . have not see a single seal at all.
winter should bring scallops and big cod close to shore specially at night . keep u informed boys ...

Great intro sharky, hope you keep posting... It goes quiet here during winter.
The weather is great for diving however I've read a few scuba reports of single figure water temps... Not long now.
This equate to about 120,000 mullet taken from a small area around cork harbour.....1 shot, 140 tons or 3500 40 kilo boxes of mullet and probably a few Bass have left the South coast and are now in France. The pair trawling team out of Kinsale will have a few extra euros to go towards their diesel bills .
With their forward-looking sounders they were able to spot the shoal, while looking for herring, and scoop these slow growing fish out of the water . Shocking really.
On a seperate note I also heard of over 3000 euros worth of Bass were netted out of kinsale a few months ago. I was wondering does anybody know of the legalities involved if say "a sponsor" were to put up a substantial reward for information leading to the prosecution of Bass poachers in the area, with a poster campaign and information website. Somebody knows something out there and to get the public involved in keeping an eye out or even up and coming "detectives" looking to make a few bob, even the poachers own friends ratting them out ? If the reward is good enough something might come of it ? I would treat any threats towards ourselves as an admission of guilt.
This morning I went for a dive with the missus and had one of those amazing moments.... was getting the gear together this morning at 8am and saw the dive camera on the table... I thought... sure its the middle of winter... nothing to see here!!! BIg mistake!

Got to dive site and there was still Ice around but how could you not feel the pull of the water with this view?
Was planning on tearing into plaice after a few dustbin lids were caught locally.
Hoped in and the plan was to swim around a nearby headland to sand... but when I got to the headland there was a little surf... only surf for miles (due to conditions) and the place was wall to wall mullet! And big mullet too!!
I dared to hope that there may be one or two bass in with them, but I couldn't find any. It was a decent shoal of about 25 mullet and I wondered if I'd see that shoal again. Almost immediately Clare shouted from about 100m away in deeper water and was waving frantically calling me over. As I swam to her I realised this was not going to be a normal day, as I was swimming through a nonstop wall of fish... never seen anything like it... literally hundreds or thousands of mullet from tiny size to massive! when I got to her she said there are lots of silver fish under her, I said come this way and she was blown away by the fish.
It got a little wild in the surf but as I was floating motionless at the entrance to one gulley watching the fish zipping a big mullet started to swim for me. I could see his wide mouth but then from behind I saw another silver fish, but this time with a smaller puckered mouth. I tried miserably to raise the gun quick enough and take a shot but it was rushed and I missed a nice 6+lb bass.
I was sure now there were bass so I kept going. as i moved to the other side of the headland I started seeing more and more, till I got to the complete opposite side and saw shoals of bass with only a few mullet in them. They were zooming so fast it was almost impossible to track them and they kept moving away from you so you had to keep moving which made it had to get close to shoot.
Also you'd spot a decent fish but not take the shot as you wait for bigger only to see smaller and not be able to find the bigger againgreat fun
Anyway, managed to get a smaller one of just under 4lbs but it was a bad shot.... hard to shoot these feckers.
I decided to try and dive and shoot. After a few dives one decent sized fish came in, I waited point blank..... and fired.... but the fish swam away///WTF!!! the spear was gone, must have snapped off the line... as the viz was great (bout 10m and more in places) I just went and picked it up.
Swapped over to the rob allen 90 but it was just a bit too heavy and big to track a shoal. The missus had been out for a while at that stage so I headed in.
Never made it to the plaice spot... but no doubt I'll be doing a bit more diving over the next few days
And.... maybe nights
Here is my effort
