My suit and fins arrived today so I went out for the 1st time.
First venue was really murky so I moved round the corner to get the offshore wind.
Dived on a ledge that runs straight out offshore for about 300m. Off the ledge there was nothing to see as the vis wasnt great, however on the ledge in about 6-7 ft there was good vis and loads of jap. Just hung around in the jap and had bass all around me. there was nothing over 2lb so i didnt get a shot off. saw a few mullet and a wrasse that was one of the largest I have ever seen, looked like a carp.
For a 1st time it was great, I saw loads and learnt to use the jap as an anchor as the tide got up. Just held it in my left hand.
Going again tommorrow now.
Nick

hi all,
Sorry i have not been on in a while,
i manged to go out 2 weeks ago sunday but i only lasted about 50mins in the water, was only around 4 ft of vis and as the tide was low so all so i did not get to a thing, although on may way back i kept close to the edge of the ledge and picked up a lobster.

im glad to hear you got or fins and wetsuit nick, i should be picking all my stuff up next monday, and planning to have quiet a few days off to play so if you wanted to go spear'ing some where give you a call, btw, how did your new gun work nick???
sorry jimy i have not looked be able to look into the needles yet mate i will look into when im off, i planning at dive over at freshwater, and a few between shanklin and ventnor,

Guns great, initially I struggled with the loading, but now I have the knack of it. Very quick and easy.
I have been twice since my last post. We are lucky in Bembridge, because we are a pininsular we always have calm water(except on an easterly). On both occasions I have been to the lifeboat pier, the vis on both occasions has been around 8ft and on each trip I had a mullet, one 3lb and the other 4.5lb.
On the last trip I lost a spear head, my fault, stupid ass, I removed it to get a fish off and the next time I got one It fell off, prick!!Anyone know where I get another "Mares Cyrano Gun"

Hi guys,
Got all my equipment Saturday morning, a few things did not come.
Beuchat is having a problem at the moment with it's ally tubes for there guns so i got a very good deal from dive conection on the 85cm carbon marlin, was acutally nice to go meet steve from there, had a chat about them using there scuba boat to do spearfishing trips around the solent.
i went out for a dive later that afternoon in my break with just the wet suit and fins first of all to see how everything fits and how i feel with it, then i went out again with the 7kg weight harness, manged to dive 25ft but it took more work getting there then i intended so im going to add a extra 2kg's to it and see how that goes tomorrow.
must have been qute strange for all there hoilday makers over here seeing me running around in my wet suit and fins, lol.
Jimy, a did alittle research into tides and currents at the needles and around that area , and most can back to me saying your life would be worht more than to dive there as the current is extremely strong,
illed be going for a dive tomorrow afternoon to catch the tide and try the gun out, so illed put up a post tomorrow everning (hopefully over a nice bass for dinner)

hiho,
went out again this everning to bembridge ledge,<lifeboat place>.
took some weight of my weight belt as a found i was little over heavy yesterday and was to light today so i could not dive and stay down, so drifted with the current for floating on the surface and shot a 4 1/2lb bass which i gave to my father for being my taxi man for the everning, but wow great place to dive so much reeds and kelp and the vis was around 10-15 ft,
fantastic place.
tired to get hold of you nick to see if you wanted to join me, maybe next time a' mate.
will try and get another pick of the fish of my dad tomorrow.
take care ben.
