Still hoping to make it, here! Might have to sleep in my car, though, with these gas prices! ;)

Actually, Seth and John bring along a smoker and do up a fantastic pork shoulder. It seems that there other great love, besides freediving, is entering BBQ contests around the Midwest- and I must admit that they are QUITE good at it!:inlove

Chris, you should just blow off Hatteras and go down there a different time of year- like when everything is covered with ice around here.rofl

Jon,

The mono was very very interesting. Too stiff for me, but the potential was awesome. One very good thing came out of it. I had been practicing dolphin kick (harder than it looks) and discovered the dolphin with bifins is very effective, rapidly becoming my favorite stroke.

Cayman was fabulous as usual, plus some great company. As soon as Ted dries out, he'll be posting some of his pics, I'll do some description.

Jon-
I am putting everything together for the weekend now. Do you need me to do anything to help ya. Just let me know! :)

I am still recovering from a bad motorcycle accident but am coming up and getting in the water! I am really looking forward to this outing, cant wait!

Hey guys I have a question regarding where you all are staying? I thought about camping at wazee lake but can't find a map or diagram of the sites. Any help...?

I say no to motels this time. I will be sleeping in the tent or in the van or under sky. I am sure Jon said there is camping with no reservations needed.

who ever rides down with me will be camping as I will be too.. the camp site is easy to get around in and right on the west side of the lake, and it's never been too hard to find the freedive group. If you arrive when there is someone at the park entrance, they'll be able to tell you where the Freedive A-palooza is setting up. Jon probably knows what site number (if they even have site numbers) we'll try to setup at.. otherwise, maybe this year we actually do have an apalooza sign..or you may just have to look for the big fins. (or the blue honda fit with the "subaqua" license plate from North Dakota, that'd be mine)

North Dakota!
Wow!

I have another question... What about dogs? I would love to bring the puppy along so that he doesn't spend all weekend with the wife (she can be a little mean roflrofl)

I think I am still going to make my raft. I know that Jon said he was bringing his kayak thingy but can't hurt to have one more right.

is that puppy as in "little yippy puppy"?.. eat the wetsuits kinda puppy?.. chew the fins up kinda puppy?
I just don't like dogs that bark all night.... kinda like my crotch getting sniffed though.. gotta love that :inlove if he don't bark in the dark, I won't bark. Can't speak for all the others...

HAHAHA Oh he is just a puppy... 60lbs at 5 months (rotty). He loves chewing on stuff like truck tires, steel pipes and concrete etc. So your fins will not be safe around him. :t Barks?/? Not at all, which is way cool. Oh if the suit has some funk he will be all over it! (he usually only eats those expensive Elios suits).rofl

As far as the crotch thing well I won't tell if you don't...:inlove

Anyway I am trying to NOT bring him if I avoid it. He'll want to swim out by us and play too.

kinda like my crotch getting sniffed though...

that's funny:t

I like dogs a lot, I wish You could bring him so we can have even more fun and teach him to dive

Is there any kind of address or anything, so those of us driving in can Mapquest it? I'd like to know what kind of drive I'm looking at, here. :)

Me & my son are gonna try to come up...Possibly my wife & baby too!
I'll bring my flimsy el'cheapo BODY GLOVE fins & snorkle gear - My fiberglass pole spear - and oh yeah...I don't wanna forget my camo wetsuit made from a camo shirt and shorts!!! My weight belt??? I have an old cast iron SKILLET I've been using!!!! SERIOUSLY!!!! DON'T LAUGH!!!

Anyway, I'm hoping people up there may have some QUALITY used gear they might wanna sell cheap or atleast I can check out the good stuff a little bit. I don't have alot of money laying around - my wifes medical bills, a new baby, and now ANOTHER one on the way - Child support to my ex wife - And more continues to eat up everything:duh

What I have works though...for now. I really love the sport of freediving and pole spearing...So does my oldest son - we share my crappy equipment...I can only imagine how much nicer good gear would be.

So all you guys with TOO MUCH good equipment that you've left in the garage since you got the Omer wetsuits, Carbon or ICE fins, Fancy imported spearguns, etc. - Bring your old stuff If you are willing to part with it - I'd love to pick up someones quality leftovers if the price is right!!!!

I sold off most of my older gear after last year's event. I still have some extra stuff, but it's mostly monofins and things like that. There will be plenty of other divers there with gear to try, and maybe sell. The nice thing about this sport is that a top of the line freediving set-up is still half the price of scuba gear and there's no pesky tanks to keep re-filling. ;)

My family is thinking of coming up to this year's event as well. They have stayed home in the past and I warned them that I will be in the water the whole weekend, but the campground is nice and the kid's swimming beaches is one of the best I've seen in the whole state.

The water up there that time of year is pretty warm down to 35' and very clear. You could just dive in a swimsuit if you want to stay above that depth. For everyone going deeper a thinner suit, at least 3mm, will suffice to get down past 100'.

Other places to look for gear are the dive shop listed at the top of this page- through Scuba store, or you can sometimes check Liesurepro. There are NO diveshops in the state that carry anything. The one guy I knew who did carry OMER couldn't sell enough and lost his account- there just aren't that many of us compared to scuba divers and it much cheaper to buy gear on-line.

 Jon...I'm hoping to have some better fins by the FREEDIVE-A-PALOOZA and maybe even a JBL 6' 8" Gold anodized tapered aluminum pole spear. - I'll be there though even with my flopped over body glove fins. I had to give up a chance to go paintballin' with a bunch of cops this Saturday because I don't have the money - But I WILL be at THE FREEDIVE-A-PALOOZA...Too bad...It woulda been kinda cool gettin' shot at by REAL cops and shootin' back too! Kinda like playin' "Cops and Robbers" like when I was a kid but with paintball guns!!! Woulda been cool but...

Guess where I'll be this weekend instead...FREEDIVIN' - MAYBE A LITTLE POLESPEARIN' AND SNORKELING AT A CLEAR WISCONSIN LAKE - Not a bad alternative!!!!

Cops can get pretty nasty if you start beating them.:naughty A very good friend of mine, who is a deputy sheriff in Milwaukee, was doing some role playing terrorist training on duty in the old Brewer's stadium and out smarted the lot of them with his hiding spot. When they called for him to come out the "take down" they used on him was a bit over the top because he made them look bad. He got them back, eventually, as he was their hand-to-hand instructor at the academy.:martial

Another time I was teaching a scuba class out at Lannon Quarry when a rabid raccoon wouldn't let my students get to the bathrooms. The ranger came out and drew down on this thing from 6' away and fired. Then he fired again, and again. He eventually emptied his revolver and never hit it once so they high school kid with the shovel, who was going to clean up afterwords, had to beat it to death instead- in front of my whole scuba class! It made me wonder how this guy could ever get a badge and carry a gun?

Have fun diving this weekend.

Jon
