Jon- off the subject of Spearing or diving- I'm a Jailor - but I can out shoot some of my friends who are cops. They just have to "qualify", not be good shots.

Im in! its only 50miles from Winona MN which is nice so Ill see you all there.

The date is fast approaching, and I STILL have no clue where I'd be driving to! fjohnson posted a few vague close-up maps (of which STATE I'm not even sure), but they're not much help. I'd be coming in from Ohio....

Todd

Todd,

You'll be driving to Lake Wazee in the town of Black River Falls, Wisconsin. Once you get to Chicago just keep taking I-94 north, and west, through Milwaukee and past Madison.

WAZEE LAKE RECREATION AREA

Here's a map of how to get to the lake once you get to Black River Falls:

Todd.. I just looked at those maps I posted.. you were right. .they are pretty vague.. another option is just take 54 east out of Black River Falls and there are signs off the highway where to turn south for the Wazee Lake Recreation Area.. I think it's just past the casino if I remember right.
Fred

Todd- there is a very slight chance that I will be able to make it- I can meet you just north of madison and you can follow me the rest of the way. I find out on Sunday night if I'll have off.

I may POSSIBLY be in South Africa during the Palooza...My wifes father has some kind of bone cancer... Total bummer...They operated on it not knowing it was cancer so maybe thats not good but atleast they NOW know WHAT it is...He' in the S.A. Airforce - Damn military hospitals!!!:vangry

Either way if my passport comes through I'll be leaving for South Africa sometime around then. My wife and one year old son will probably already be there. Hopefully we wont have to rush over there right away - We are waiting for some kind of solid prognosis - unless he takes a turn for the worse - When we do go to South Africa it will be the first time my new Son has met his Grandfather - and the first time I have met my Wifes father too!!!...Hopefully not the last...:waterwork

There goes any kind of money I hoped to save for new gear and such - I & MY FAMILY HAVE TO FLY OVER THERE SOMETIME SOON & it's not very cheap at all...but oh well...I'd give up anything just for him "my wife's father" to see his Grandson in person...Hopefully he'll get better - He loves fishing in Durban...AND SO WOULD I - We could see who gets a bigger fish - Ofcourse I would pole spear mine!!!!

Sad thing is - MY Dad is suffering from lung cancer & lives in Pennsylvania - He was a prick to me & my family all his life - We ARE'NT going to Pennsylvania anytime soon...:inlove

Really sorry about to hear about your father in law's illness. I wish him, you and your family all the best. Your own dad, too.

Sorry about the unexpected expense. SA is DEFINITELY not cheap. Not to mention the 20+ hr flight. I've been wanting to go there for a long time, but it is just prohibitively expensive esp when you think about all the other things one can do with the airfare alone. I totally commiserate with you. It is really good of you to bring your family there to see and spend time with your father in law. Despite the circumstances, I hope you can find some good times while you are there. And I hope you will be spearing with your father in law someday soon!

Safe travels to you and your family and take good care. Best,

This website totally rocks!!!! I can't say enough...When I finally get my (quality) gear I'm gonna support this site with a paid subscription 'fer sure.:inlove

After last year's event there was a lot of talk about making it longer. It looks like my wife will go along with this idea and I should be up there some time on THURSDAY!

That means a little diving Thursday evening, as there is still a ton of daylight up there, and all day long on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. More than enough time to get some good dives in and explore the whole place. I think that should even be time to spear a few fish in there somewhere.

the other reason to get up there a bit early is to snag some nice camping sites before the weekend crowd filters in. All of the sites are group sites so we can just keep stacking up the tents to make sure everyone fits.

Jon

Hmm, I better get me a tent! lol And an air mattress!

Todd

P.S. Hope everyone liked my new article, "FIT for Freediving"!

I was wondering if anyone else is bringing their family up with?

I'm trying to decided if my wife and kids would be too bored with dad in the water all weekend, or there might be a couple of dry moments that would make it worthwhile to bring everyone along?

Jon

One spearo I've meet in Miami is coming to visit his mom in Indiana. He will come with me to Palooza as well! So, Jon You can add two more states to the list. He is coming because he wants to meet Wisconsin spearos and exchange the experience in "fish killing".

Jeanette Maytag! I hope You don't have Your drivers license yet. I just bought a new van, a big one. There is enough room to accomodate half ot the DB community but only four people are coming with me (Miami spearo with his sister, Jim - freedive Chicago and Cedric the firefighter) Would You like to drive with us? more people more fun. We are leaving Chicago early morning saturday the 14th. It would be good if You could get monday off as well, blood shift makes You very sleeppy so I am preetty sure after sunday dive we will need a good nap before the drive back home

Jon - I was thinking about going up on Thursday- mainly cause I work Saturday and Sunday. I thought about bringing the Fam (wife and 3 kids). do you know if there is a playground of anysort up there?

--------Scott

Can someone give me a specific zip code for the area? That way I can just punch it into Mapquest and get a general idea of distance, drive time, etc. Thanks!

Todd

Oh, and Jon, if I do make it out there (right now it's mostly up to finances, I may have to CHARGE the entire trip...gas and all..which I really DON'T want to do), I'd be glad to do an article.... it definately could use some coverage, which would bring it more notice!

Todd

Here's the closest shop to the lake:
Wazee Lake

Here's a map of how to get to the lake once you get to Black River Falls:
How to Find Us

Just type BLACK RIVER FALLS into Mapquest and you'll find your driving directions. Black River Falls, in Jackson county, is the city where Lake Wazee is located. If you can find your way there you can get to the lake.

You can also look here for the GPS coordinates:

My wife Jan and my son Geno (10) will be coming with me. Both like to go in the water...will be Jan's first true freediving experience...I hope to make it a good one. (I may even let her use my suit if she is nice to me! rofl )

We will be up Friday evening (leaving work @ 12:00), & will leave Sat. evening.

I just got a couple dozen Deeper Blue T-shirts in the mail for the event...Big thank you goes out to Stephan.

Nostres, you're awesome!!! Congratulations on your new van! And, thanks so much for your generous offer to join you guys! You guys are all so kind! I'd love to join the group but I just got back into town and will have to go out of town again the following week so I need to stay and work this weekend.

You can be sure, however, that I'll be thinking of all of you and looking forward to seeing the pics and hearing your stories! I'll also be wishing you guys fantastic conditions, safe travels and diving, and all the best of times!

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your kindness! You and everyone who kindly offered me a ride. Gotta run to a conference. Take good care and cheers!
