I tried a search but cannot find anything that actually answers my question. I have noticed that every day after I lift weight (with sore muscles) my performance at the pool the next day seems terrible. Is there a connection between the lactic acid buildup and apnea? I was struggling a lot today to reach just 50m which I have done many times now.

yes, there is.

freediving is anaerobic to a degree and if you haven't recovered from the training the day before you'll notice that.

during a long dive peripheral vasoconstriction increases to make oxygen available to vital organs. this leaves your legs with less o2, meaning more work has to be done anaerobically. the lactic acid buildup in the legs can happen extremely quickly, depending on training condition, of course. so it's no surprise that you have problems managing a dive which, when rested, is totally easy.

Maybe you want to type 'aerobic' or 'anaerobic' into the search engine as keywords. there were some long discussions here about those issues already.

i personally take 2 days off after training. sometimes 3, depends. a good rest is priceless.

cheers

Weight traning also increases your metabolism for X time afterwards (and ofcoruse bigger muscles usually means higher basal metabolism, but that's life).

Hi :

apart of the generation of the lactic acid the lift weigh cause an unrelaxed muscle state unsuitable for apnea. You could waste 02 trying to find a confortable position when your muscles are rigids.

One day before spearfishing a light and relaxed jogging (40 min) provide ma a good shape. It,s my experience.

To learn to rest it's too important than to learn to train.

Good bye, Luis
