My Method Wrong Or Right

HI,

This is a very interesting thread, to me it brings up the classic problem in N.A. society, the inherent conflict between what the US coins say on them and how they are used. This conflict was first commented on just before the US Civil war. In a nut shell the country claims to promote fellowship and sharing, as does Deeper Blue, but the economic system promotes profit taking
and a hierarchical system power based on profit and knowledge. The cost to the country is institutionalized poverty. What is the cost here on Deeper Blue?

This is far more than idle rhetoric, I saw this first hand while freediving in Cuba this summer. When a car broke down on the highway other cars pulled over to help. After I returned, I was trying to fix my red car on the road next to a church that was just letting out, all I got was "hey you are in my way comments".

Capitalism and fellowship don't mix!

Best wishes,

Doug Morgan,
Lantzville, B.C.

Hi,

I'll try to put it very clearly. If basic safety information is only available for a price, those that can pay will know and those that can't won't.

I hope that this helps,

Hmmm

FD48,

I do honestly believe that profit making and free basic information can co-exist. Look at this site (and the forums more specifically), all sorts of basic information is available for free, and I don't think the established and growing community here would want to see that become fee paying.

In fact, I am so dedicated to making sure that this community continues to exist that I fund hundreds (sometimes into four digits) of dollars every month to make sure everyone can freely exchange information.

I think what we have to watch is how far advanced information gets. I feel strongly that advanced information should be taught by experts...and not only that but it helps drive the industry forward as the more money put into the industry, the higher the return of free information back to the public.

It's true that companies such as Performance Freediving (Kirk's outfit) would be expensive for europeans to attend, but I spent a long time talking to Howard Jones of Freediver today and not only does he teach at a perfect 30m training facility in the UK, but he told me that courses are starting to be taught all over europe. I know I have received information from the far east on new courses over there. The sport is still too young to be as wide spread as (let's say) Scuba Diving - but we're getting there.

Deeper Blue is committed to delivering quality basic information to our readers, these forums provide a sounding board for further discussion - however we will always promote the best ways of doing things, if this means not always giving advanced information out, or correcting someone on the forums - so be it. I'd rather annoy someone on the forums than to hear that they pushed it too hard in the pool by themselves and ended up dying.

Let's hope that this thread helps drive these forums to the next level - wider reach that ensures that quality, safe advice is given out to the next generation of Freedivers. I know that everyone on my volunteer team is committed to that.
