new OMER pneumatic!!!

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Why the speculation that it will be crap? Where did you see the gun to make the assumptions made in this thread?

AS a left hander this gun looks Crap...Why the hell dont they make short guns to me thats the whole idear.

The one shot with the Ergo Grip is a right hand grip, but they make a left handed Ergo Grip as well. The rest of the pics show the neutral grip as far as I can tell.

Well, with an 11mm piston, 7 or even 6.75 m shaft and an inline grip it is already combining the best of the best conventional guns and going one better with improved ergonomics. The power reducer is simpler than what is on Mares and Cressi. I doubt there is a reduction in air volume since, most likely, the chamber is a cylinder with the hydroformed barrel around it for ergonomics. Mamba guns do have disadvantages - so I think it still makes sense to build an improved conventional pneumo - which is what this is. The only improvement I've not seen elsewhere is the grip - which I think is pretty cool by the way.

Anyway - slam away but so far it looks like the cyrano and spark have some serious competition.

I believe there are as many ppl out there that like the Cayman handle as there are ppl that don't like it. Nothing off the shelf compares to a retrofit customs grip made from utileplast, polymorph or similar ...

As for the repositioning of the handle & aiming: most airgun aiming issues are suffered by ppl that usually shoot band-guns and rely on aiming with the shaft. Also: recoil will be an issue for the wet barrel Omer airbalete whereas it is close to inexistant on any dry barrel airguns.

Cheers, ulysses

I like fat grip handles. I feel as if the skinny ones dont secure the shot as well. Thats my personal preference. I also prefer asso handle over mares.

1)I hope the new pneumatic comes properly balanced with a 7mm shaft.

2)Shoots as hard as a mamba kitted gun

I am a tad scare on the quality of this product, hopefully and I mean it, I would hate to see many complains on the guns build quality as far as technical I do hope like stated above the gun is well balance and the handle dosn't pose much of a problem with the new eye catching design.

I would love to see some video footage of the gun in action from omer all we have so far are pics thats not enough to elaborate on the guns performance.

Amazingly, I was just looking at that. Honestly i think it could be a picture angle I would seriously hate to be Omer and expose a "BEND" product at en exivition! :vangry

According to secret Omer Technical Documents their fish psychologists, after years of intense research, have determine that fast swimming species pass divers from left to right nearly 85% of the time. Omer technicians have, therefor, designed the Airbalete with patented 'right-swimming-lead technology'
in order to "providing for every possibility of the techological for him not missing".

On a side note: it would appear advantageous if the Omer engineers would correct the apparent bend in their prototype's barrel/chamber (or is it just me?) rofl

Link blocked by firewall darn it...

rofl Just what I've been waiting for! Woooooo!

Congrats, Fonduset! This is a perfect application for employment! Omer's marketing department is in the driver seat of the company - at least since Valerio Grassi left for Seatec I see (at least!) a free-lance contract coming your way rofl

Cheers, ulysses

Some more photos that provide some answers as to the "Airbalete" gun's inner works. Pumping up the gun is same as the GSD "Punto". Piston retaining catch is blocked movement type rather than usual single-piece trigger in "see-saw" configuration operated by transmission pin linked external trigger.

Is it possible/likely that a Mamba/dry-barrel kit will be produced for the Omer Airbalete? I think it looks very good, nice & slim like the band guns. If I were into air guns I would buy one - but I'm not, so just ordered another XXV . Which size Airbalete would you go for & how are they measuring them -- barrel length like a band gun or total length like a traditional airgun?

very cool, what size will the be available? Its my understanding the U.S. market may never see one...anyone know this as fact?

I hope it floats after spear discharge with that narrow body section and the flooded rear handle end. Keeping the gun off the bottom as much as possible has been one of the reasons for increased pneumatic speargun reliability over the years because it helps keep sand grains out of where you do not want them to go. Like down the barrel and inside the exposed trigger mechanism parts. Pistons used to have forward facing conical wiper seals to clear any small amounts of grit out, but they have been replaced by plastic barrel alignment sections which are now part of the piston body.

A table showing which models float and which do not after spear discharge is useful information, for instance the baby Cyrano 550 does not float, while its larger brothers do, thanks to that family of guns having long and thus negatively buoyant snouts. The flooded handle and long muzzle of the Airbalete pose similar problems unless the gun is very light elsewhere to offset their weight, including the reel unless it too has offsetting buoyancy elements. I hope Omer publish some info on these aspects of their new gun.

From the catalog (don't know how they measure this though - total vs. barrel length):
L.103.6cm - Airbalete 100
L.109.6cm - Airbalete 110
L.113.6cm - Airbalete 110
L.78.5cm - Airbalete 80
L.83.6cm - Airbalete 80
L.89.0cm - Airbalete 90
L.93.6cm - Airbalete 90
L.99.3cm - Airbalete 100

Not sure how to read this. Perhaps airbalete is available in 80, 90, 100 & 110cm sizes with spear length options shown on the left? Notice that would mean the spear is sometimes shorter than the nominal speargun/barrel size & sometimes longer.
