New Seatec Gabbiano 2009!

good pictures of that nice looking gun! yer that spear is a work of art!
Can you tell me more about the line wrap - it looks like the wrap is around the metal piece that curves over the top of the barrel, held closed by the spear? so once the gun is fired, does the metal piece lift/rotate back? doesnt it get in the way when re-loading? cant quite figure it...

(Hey Jon, thanks for your reply to my question!)

The mono filament holds the spear to the gun. From where it is attached to the end of the spear, it goes up the barrel of the gun, under one of the forks, over the spear then back under the fork on the other side of the spear. The mono then is released from the metal clip over the barrel when the spear, holding the clip down is fired. The metal clip swivels up enabling the mono to be released.

I think this reads better Broseidon...

Without a doubt, having asked the boss, primed the Mrs, I am going to take a long weekend and make the short, worthwhile trip to the coast next weekend - I'll let you know how it feels!

roflroflroflrofl

For your information I am my own boss and I don't need permission for anything! .......actually, I better just go and ok that :D

Have you got your own car or do you want to come down with me? It will be pretty tight with three in a Mini + kit but should be doable - might have to tie the guns to the roof - (semi-serious) :blackeye

I'd better just go and check that that's ok... dont want to get into trouble! :D

It's really simple mate - hopefully the photos will make more sense than Dafydd's waffley reply! roflroflroflrofl

It is an easy gun to handle under water , it tracks well.

Ive started to feel a bit of movement in the handle on mine the grey grip is a bit loose, probably tightening the screw at the bottom will fix that.

That metal line release is one of the little factors that makes the Gabbiano a bit of a fuss to load compared to other guns. You have to load it slowly and carefully , and i still have trouble getting the spear to click firmly into the locking mechanism, i really have to give it a good shove, several times Ive thought it was in (felt the click) and had the spear slide out when I get the wishbone in place.

Strange, i thought it made it really easy - have you got a boingy thing? Obviously I haven't done it in the water but i seems pretty simple/

That's really strange, mine clicks in with almost no effort - maybe you've got a dodgy one mate? Try taking the trigger mech apart and prodding at bits! If nothing else it will make you feel manly! :D

Thanks for clarifying the line release for me - the gun looks superb and i am impressed, but the line release does seem a bit less than ideal, not a biggie tho! :)
Hope you enjoy the new toy!

I have to say, at first I looked at it and thought it was a bit lame but the more I fiddled with the gun, the more I realised what an inspired piece of simple design it was.

Super simple with nothing to go wrong... what more could you ask for?

What i mean is if say your in a hurry , you flatten the release back down get the spear into position sort out your mono then go to slide the spear into place sometimes the release has come back up again and blocks the spear. So then you have to flatten that again, while holding the spear , then re-check your mono etc. Its not a major issue just one of the small issues that occasionally adds up to an annoyance.

Ah, yeah, I can see that happening - could be annoying if you're in a rush!

Just a quick question - do I load the gun to the first or second notch on the spear???

First notch if on a rocky bottom: less damage to the spear tip if you hit a rock.

After all I don't think you're hunting monter big fish, and I guess the visibility is not chrystal clear over there. Loaded first notch it's enough power for average fish and average conditions.

Cool, thanks buddy! :)

What do think the range will be?

It's a 90 with 20mm bands.

must be something about 4 meters from speartip to target. Quite easy to find out: assuming you'll use a single loop of spearline (3x barrel length: 90x3=270cm) and the shaft is 130cm long...
If you'll feel a strong pull from the line after the shot, it's 4 meters effective range, while if you feel a feeble pull from the spearline then it's something less than 4 meters. But that's where it's at.
I think it's better to try to shoot closer than 4 meters anyway: extreme range shots are hardly lucky shots....(to me at least)

I have had exactly the same problems padaxes. I just presumed the grey bit on my grip was becoming loose due to repetively aiming out of my window during the cold months which obviously puts alot of pressure on the handle when not supported by water. I also push the spear back as possible until I hear a positive 'click' but sometimes when I pull the band back, the spear sometimes falls out when the gun is poiting down, gues it is just my fault though. Don't get me wrong though, I absolutely love this gun.

Sorry I did not reply sooner Broseidon but i am ok for a lift thanks mate.I have my very own spear fishing vehicle (comes with smell n' all!)! I will give you a ring later in the week to confirm everything.Looking forward to it!

Cool man - how was this weekend? Have a good one?

Glad to hear you've got transport man - not sure we'd have fitted in mine, thought I'd better offer as I wasn't sure you had a car, being a student and all! ;)

Weather for this week is looking pretty bad... shall we play it by ear and make decisions on when to go a bit later in the week? I don't mind going mid-week (in the week after weekend coming) it looks like it will be better - no love for camping in the rain! :D

4 meters? I get that out of my Cayman Carbon 75 and even then the spear pulls on the line like a doberman after an escaped convict rofl! Still, I agree about extreme range shots - much better to get them in close unless you have the skills of Giorgio Dapiran.

I used a double rap on my gabi does not go the full 2x rap but goes a bit further id gues 5 or 6 m.

I say used a double rap as i lost my gun!!!!

Of course I am going to get the new gabi.... So is it only the snake that comes in sexy camo?

I think if you have your arm fully extended with a 900 gun fitted with a 1100 spear & your gun has a 3 meter range that would give you a 6 meter distance from your eye - if you are saying your guns have a 6 meter range from the muzzle that would be 7.8 meters from your eye?
You would need good vis & a steady hand to hit a 3lb bass at 7.8 meters from you eye?
My Asso 115 mamba is reputed to have an accurate range of 5 meters from the muzzle but it is also reputed to be the "most powerful hand gun in the world"!! :) (you also need 6 hours a week in the gym to load it)
