i was just about to say that the activity in here has come down alot. but it hink its due to the swell and the crappy viz. well im stuck out here im pomona for ateleast another weeek or so. we are just getting started on a few big projects and if they need the help and want to pay me for it then im here. cuz god knows i need the money. anyways how has everyone been keeping up. any new stories?

nothing new here, just the daily grind. As Kanak said, just looking for a topper for our last trip out. I know the swell is dropping and pretty much gone now. I read in the paper today that the vis around Cat island is 30-50 feet!! Malibu had no report and Laguna was POOR at 4-6ft. I know Kanak and I are planning dives for this weekend, not sure the spot yet, maybe one up north then one down south??

good luck everyone,

Joel

Was in the water today...looks like conditions are going to hold up throughout the weekend...

i might be interested in going out tomorrow, but like joel said, the conditions in laguna are not very good.. so i may just have to wait til next week now.. my summer break is over, so now im pretty much busy 12-4pm most days (class) with a few days of 8-11am (internship)

busy busy summer, but i graduate finally in september so it might be worth it just to buckle down and finish lol. been a long time comin.

I just graduated in may... and started full time work.. i have NO TIME TO DIVE! unless i leave work early... so be sure to take a long break before you get yourself involved with a full time job... i wish i had more free time

yea im goin on my 3rd year and i had to take this summer off from classes cuz i couldnt add any. but w/e im working pritty much full time and im getting payed bank so im just saving up some money and trying to pay off my credit card and all. but i still have about 33-3.5 years left. man engineering takes so long to get done. it sucks but its alright i got a god paying internship and im planning on keeping it till i graduate.

Actually conditions in Laguna weren't that bad today. Water temp has dropped a little, but visibility was decent- about 15'.

Anyone been out lately? I may try and do a hour or 2 shore dive to try out a new apnea suit I just got. I heard it has been getting colder so this would be the perfect time.

Laguna viz is so-so with green tide making it a little murky. By all means it is not bad though. I f you know what you are looking for, then you should be good to go. I suggest heading into deeper water and things will clear up. Although water temp did drop to 64, they are currently rising once again at around 70 as of today. For general surf and visibility reports call (949) 494-6573. It is not the most accurate but at leat it allows a guideline of conditions. I tend to use the theory that if viz is reporting at 15 feet, then it is probably more like 10-12 feet. This way I don't anticipate conditions being better than they actually are. BUT....if you hear 20 feet viz, then start running for the shore!!! Good luck...

Thanks for the number Kanaks, thats pretty sweet. I don't work from an office, so don't have the luxury of checking conditions online.

I usually keep gear in my truck, and cruise by the beach when I get the chance- this should help eliminate some of the guesswork though.

i dove PV on friday, it was good vis at least 10 ft. Water was warm about 65

I dove frontside Catalinea Saturday, Yielded a sheephead and my buddy shot a 30 lb wsb. Vis was really good at least 20+ ft warm waters high 60's

I did a short dive today in PV again during the tide uprising ( @ 3:00pm ish), viz was still pretty decent at 10 ft, but so many divers hit that spot every fish has been spooked. didnt see anything good.

this weekend was a good for diving if you all made it out!

Great tip. I just got a nice little SUV for beach runs so I need to keep a bag in he back. If I do keep a bag in the back would it ruin my mask or fins if left in for a few days? I don't get to park in the shade at the office and with temps up to 75 outside it gets pretty hot inside. I would hate to ruin any equipment by leaving it in the truck to melt.

i would refrain from leaving my gear in the car daily in the heat, once in a while if ur diving say after work or school makes sense...

Thats a good question, and one that I don't have an answer for. I haven't been diving for long, but also haven't seen any ill affects yet- but then again my vehicle is not static for long periods, and locations vary from the Santa Barbara coast to Otay.

Well I think i'll just keep a bag in a closet ready to go and bring it to work when I anticipate and early departure and then leave it in the car and maybe crack the windows to let a small amount of air in.

Does anybody plan on doing any early evening (say after 4PM) dives this week?

I've been hunting solo for the last couple months, but as I push myself more to go deeper and stay longer (and everytime I do, I want to go deeper than the last), I think it would be wise of me to have somebody around.

Let me know, I'll probably be in the waters around Laguna everyday this week- depending on conditions.

I had planned to, at least on Fridays when I leave early, but I tore a muscle in my back last Friday so it will be at least a week or more before i'm back in the water.

If you want you can send me your e-mail and I can forward it to a few guys I normally dive with. We are all some what newbies, but it's better than solo diving especially if your pushing yourself.

Yeah thats cool. Like I said, I'll be in the water probably everyday, but there is a little swell filling in on Wednesday, so tomorrow might be the best day to get it. Where do you dive in Newport? I was thinking Laguna somewhere.

I'm 31, been down 30m+ with scuba gear on, but freediving probably nothing more than 10m- I just started freediving in June.

i only know of inspiration point over in Newport that i dove with aesthetic and matt once. But its a great spot id like to visit it again, but i hear laguna has more reef. id be down to try any new spot as long as someone is in the water with me!

Tomorrow may not be the best of days for me, but like u said the swell may be coming in. so let me know how it is and ill try to make some time this week.

Im 24, and also pretty new to freediving, my deepest is about 10m as well (30-40 ft)
