Got in yesterday late on ,on high on north side .looked fantastic on low from cliffs by time I got in later viz had plummeted to 2-3 m milky gloom .Misty pouring with rain small swell looked and looked just small pollock ,few mullet and odd poss bass big dogs n jellies .Fantastic spot with loads of string weed and boulders .Then I found out why I'd seen no fish mr seal came to play and buzzed me .i gave up n got out killer walk then up the mountain cliffs to car .very warm in sea for north side .
Got in myself. Vis was 2 meters at best so very difficult shots on fish that were passing by very fast. Missed a couple and got the lobster during an aspetto. The lobster came next to me and I waited to see if a bass was coming and right at the end of the aspetto I grabbed the beast and went back to take fresh air. Long hours at the sea, happy days!
Thanks for the pics Denian! Nice fish Dario! I will be having a nose around a few spots on Tuesday, will let you know how it goes.

I got in yesterday without the gun and found 5-6m viz on the north coast despite it being absolutely baltic! We had an interesting encounter when sheltering behind a headland where we came across one of the largest gatherings of sand eel I have ever seen in about 7-8 metres of water. All of a sudden they were spooked by something and dashed towards us and after a few seconds there was a shoal of about 10 mackerel chasing them in. It was pretty cool to see!
I did a few drops but nothing came in and got out after an hour as we were pretty cold.
Had a mooch around in 30cm of vis at a south coast spot late in the afternoon with the gun but it was pointless. I think most of the south coast will be trashed now.

Great breath hold on the first dive and excellent shooting on the mackerel, I seem to have lost the ability to hit anything, my breath hold is ok though.

Thanks for that Grant news to me and others .West wales is a large area not that it make a difference .Thats terrible .More so as I had the rare opportunity on saturday to swim with a seal .A fantastic experience .Hope it doesn't get blown out of proportion .
Quick viz report as I know a few of you are thinking about going tomorrow - in short, don't bother. It's genuinely not worth it - conditions are really nasty.
I was out with DafyddRees today - North Coast was horrific, white caps everywhere, very windy - Viz was almost unfishable - I couldn't see past the end of my 60.
South Coast was even worse although once we got out the viz cleared a little and it was just about on the absolute limit of fishable. A lot of swell and current running which made it a bit grim.
Serious lack of fish which is becoming oh so common in North Wales - everywhere we went was barren. I cannot believe the lack of fish these days. Spots that used to be jammed with fish are now empty.
Despite the horrific conditions - it goes without saying that Broseidon never blanks - we came out with a big mullet and an ok bass. These were literally the only silver fish seen in the entire day - probably 6+ hours on the water.

Just to reiterate what Bro says, the conditions were appalling today! The first spot on the north coast was a place we both detest fishing but it was the only place that held reasonable vis, and by reasonable I mean ~1m. It ended up being a pretty casual dive with more interest in Oreos and a catchup than actual fishing.
We fished the south coast for 2 hours and was much more productive. Controversially I took a nice mullet of 3lb over a similar size bass that presented together and devastatingly, when mooching for crustaceans without my speargun, a shoal of three very good red mullet strolled passed. The tide was running hard so using my anchored bouy to maintain position and breathe up I tried a few more dives but they never came back in. Absolutely tons of baitfish and a shoal of about 50 microbass shot passed which was good to see at least.
Unfortunately I left my gopro in the car so no footage of any fishing.
You need to be foolhardy or have a few very special spots if you are considering getting in this weekend!

Ffs indeed. The humanity in me lets me hope it was only shot out of necessity, ie it was posing a threat by biting or drowning, but I'd doubt that. Looks like a spear from a 60-65 cm gun, and looks like the cressi multifilament that comes standard with commanche guns is still on there.
My theory is someone has seen the dead seal pherhaps on the shore or in the water and being a daft noob decided to see what sort of punch their gun has so has shot the thing and the flopper has engaged inside the animal and they have been unable to pull the spear out. A bad experiment gone wrong. second theory is the animal has surprised a diver and they have tensed/clinched and fired by accident . I would have expected the gun to be attatched though in this situation as apposed to the first. Very sad and terrible .
