North Wales, The Llyn & Anglesey 2013.

It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Ah that would be the local knollage then paying off LOL. Welcome Honest Bob to the wild land of cold sea and no fish !.Hunting the rare welsh mountain hobbit may be more productive !

I must confess I've been lurking on this forum for some time...

Thank you Bob, we appreciate your honesty ;)

The North Wales spearo is rare breed, you'll not find many of us about! I hope you've learned well from the previous thread, it's a shame to see it disappear - it contains a wealth of info about the North Wales coast, it's reefs and hidden gems.

It's a real shame about the guys on Sunday, the chances of their women ever letting them go spearing again are pretty much zero rofl Thanks for the update on them - hope they make a full recovery!

I saw a guy fall off the rocks at Porth Cieriad which trying to do some rock climbing, it was years ago, the coasties were there in a flash and he was whipped off in the helicopter with two boken legs. Impressive to say the least!

There 208 pages of stuff if you look in search bar above put in "pastor" then again in key words ,drop down to spearing north wales click on page one and read the spearing history of the north wales from 2006 till now !. its fantastic to read with a wealth of knollage ?and story's .Pastor is a local spearo from gerwen or menia bridge way! Its a key word to get me back to that time .there may be a quicker way, sure some one will tell us !Happy reading every one.....or go to uk and ireland drop to bottom go in to page two !spearing north wales is there !

Cheers chaps.

I've read through all 200-odd pages of the old thread over the winter months. As a newbie it gives a good feel for what spearing is like in this neck of the woods - thanks again for sharing. Also there are some cracking stories - some that spring to mind include:

- the time the spearo got attacked by an angry angler (!)
-the massive spider crabs that Broseidon caught (this helped get the misses on board with this whole spear fishing idea - she's Portuguese so goes wild for spider crab)
-the time Dario caused a stink by getting "papperazi'd" with around 20 bass on his stringer

Broseidon - apparently the 2 chaps who were rescued have no intention of letting their women find out about the weekend's drama! That is some audacious white-lying, fair play to them...

Cheers chaps.

Welcome Bob!

Hope to see you out there. Keep in touch on here and shout if you want company. might even end up with another mass night dive this year.... Was worth a story or two.

enjoy!

Hi Bois, got in at 9 last night thinking the vis doesn’t look that good. About 1-2M from the surface. Anyway went for it. It turned out to be a really good dive. About 2-3M A new spot so always interesting and looks very promising. Well it was productive, 1.5lbs flounder on the stringer. Hard to shoot in about a meter of water running 2-3 kts, fired of the hip got him bang in the middle. Saw a couple more, but over them before getting a chance to fire then I spooked them trying to line them up.

Saw 3 Bass two were too small but one was a good 5lbs. As I came around this weed covered rock, I saw its head come around the other side, as I was taking aim I spooked it. (doh) You know when you’re going to remember that fish and the situation for a long time. I’ve got a few scenes from over the years stuck in my head. It’s always the ones that get away. Strange as my memory is shocking normally.

Anyway no bass taken so off to S4 got in there about 11.30. I hate putting the wetsuit back on. (Is there anything worse?). I drifted down with the ebb diving along the way. While I was breathing up I saw a shadow below (vis about 3) I knew it was a Bass so took aim, boom head shot. Only 2lbs, but looked bigger. Ha maybe the first one was only 5lbs in my head.

Sorry for the long post but really enjoyed last night. I post pics when I’m home.

Well done on the fish bass-d glad some one got in and finding new spots .Shame about the 5lbs er next time ! At least you saw fish that's good news ! Any spiders spotted yet ? Has any one seen any spider crabs ? And not in Tesco !!!!.On my last night dive useing the go-pro and d 6 torch I found it to bright a beam over exposing the footage anyone have a torch with a more flood like light ?Even with the torch on low the spot is still to focused ,has anyone defused there torch beam if you get what I mean ? When hunting in pitch black you look for silver /white reflection out in the gloom (and green dog fish eyes reflecting at you like some ware wolf waiting to tare you apart! oooops!) and home in on it ?So a spot light is some times to bright. What do you think?

Ian I use the Cree t6 torches of ebay. Well one Q5 single battery, and one T6 double battery. Both excellent for the money. I mount them under the gun so they pivot saves me doing sweeps with the gun, and obviously frees up a Hand when I need it. I've just ordered a zoomable one so maybe that will allow me to control the size of spot. Though I've not tried to film with either.

Oh and not a single spider seen.???

Them Cree LEDs have come on fantastically in the last year or so .Whats your zoom one like ?does the beam go from plate size to garage door size or wider ? I have not seen one .Be for I forget to tell every one if they haven't noticed they are dredging phllheli harbour with big diggers so that whole areas going to be out for weeks and a lot of the south coast may be ?some one could pop in and have a look when the bad weather calms down.just looked at the Llyn web cam day photos .Depends if there dumping it at the top end by golf coarse ?I'm working away stuck in digs again inland!suppose it pays for fishing weekends tho!

I was in there sat ! pic 3 under that digger/ bull dozzer and hanging on to that yellow post on high water.!umm vis won't be so good now!

I'll keep you posted on the vis around pwllheli. I'm still waiting for the zoomable one to arrive. A mate of mine bought a standard non diving zoomable one. It put a perfect pattern of the led on a wall 50M away and opened up to a very wide spot. Like you said garage door size.
It should be here soon.

It's this one

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390523148...l?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=390523148730&_rdc=1

I know it's not going to be the best torch available, but no much to gamble and I've got loads of battery's for them. They're like a large AA.

popped over this morning to pwllheli to pick my gear up for next week harbour silt now in big mountain on end of spit .so vis not effected .but for bad weather.110520131482.jpg
