Well I got my first bass last evening on the setting sun. Slightly choppy conditions. New rollergun working a treat.
One sniff of a bass and everyone's on here posting - I think we all need a trip to the sea! 
Hi all . Another newbie 
Totally new to spearfishing and just buying some kit so I can see if it's for me or not .
If anyone could put me onto some good sits with tips and advice for a novice i would be grateful . I live in Cheshire so north Wales is within reach for me , also if anyone knows of a good sheltered quiet bay or stretch of coast line where I could go for even just target practice and just get a feel for the gun that would be helpful to . Thanks in advance for any help .

Literally chomping at the bit Paul!!! Making a weekend of it from the 15th-17th with Bros +WAG's (the apres ski won't be as fun hah) to try out his new boat for a mid-revision break! Will be hoping to get some decent footage mit GoPro for the first time aswell so will post results!
Pob, Porth Oer is a decent place to start mate - easy entry, cafe on the beach with a shallow reef. Just be wary of the tide though as it can rip pretty hard at certain times but it will be pretty obvious before you get in. Traeth Beach is another FANTASTIC bass beach! Equipment wise, "the beginners section" of the forum has plenty of advice of where to start! Best of luck and welcome to a great sport!

I was in the Aberystwyth area over the weekend, after driving around for an hour and a half and struggling anywhere where I could get in or that had decent vis, I ended up in the harbour at Aberystwyth on a falling tide. Vis was 1.5 meters at best, usually less than a meter. The bottom there is very silty with very little weed cover. After half an hour looking for the end of my gun I decided it was a complete waste of time, got out and went back to my campsite.
Ah that is unfortunate Paul! I spent many summers seatrout fishing on the Rheidol and did plenty of snorkeling during the days! We even had the pleasure of meeting Malcolm Edwards (He sadly died a few years ago) who is one of the premier sewin fishermen of all time. He apparently caught upwards of 50 double figure sewin during his time.
I have seen bass at North beach below the cliffs where there is an extensive reef that runs away to the north. Tan-y-bwlch (to the south of where you fished) is a storm beach with a reef to the south. I do remember one year a foreign spear fisherman came out with a very decent sized fish of some description but have never really dived there due to the vis. Plenty of prawns in the rock pools though! The river next to the concrete pier is the Ystwyth; we snorkelled in it a few times and saw plenty of decent sewin during a spate - it was good fun cruising under the tree roots next to the river bank to see what we could find.

Yes, I ventured into the Ystwyth, but didn't see the point in hanging about with it being fresh water. That said, the whole harbour was pretty much fresh water as the harbour is fed by another river, there could've been fish everywhere and i wouldn't have known about it. There was a reasonable swell so everywhere else was trashed.
