Fish Pics

I know people seem to have held back from turning this thread into a slaughter board, but I wanted to show you guys what a good day in West Palm Beach, FL can be like. I'm the short guy all the way on the right. The guy all the way on the left is Andrew Geist (13th place individual in the World Championships in Tahiti last year). Notice the cut tail on his 33 lb king mackeral. It was the biggest he had ever shot and he was quite upset when a big 'cuda grabbed hold of it. That's my boat in the background, and Anderson if you don't make it all the way to the Keys when you're here, there's always room on it for you. Or for anybody else on this Forum who would like to shoot some fish in WPB.

Everyone...

Please try to keep you image sizes down (below 640 pixels wide if possible) as not everyone will have broadband connections to the internet. Resize it using a tool like Paint Shop Pro or Fireworks.

Sturgeon - i've shrunk your image for you!

cero mackerel

this is a pretty decent cero mackerel. if you know how to cook these guys, they're pretty tasty. :p

no. 2 pencils

aquiles and i call the smaller cero mackerel #2 pencils because they're so hard to land. they're flesh is xtremely soft, so if you don't hit them dead solid, you'll lose them. kinda like trying to shoot at a #2 pencil :D on the other hand, some actually come in so close that they practically impale themselves on your spear. you just have to stay still.

king mackerel, aka smoker

here's a small king mackerel. the big ones are always around when i have my small gun. :head but, just to show you what a "whole"(sorry, scott :D) king mackerel looks like...

antlantic black grouper

aquiles holed this little guy in about 55 feet. we both had followed him for what seemed like miles. boy, was he good eatin! :p

this is the same fish in scott's picture above.

cubera snapper

these guys have quite the temper. they have some snazzy canines and will give you a hell of a time even though you've shot a piece of steel through their heads. they get about 3 times the size of this one...

dogtooth snapper

this is a pretty decent sized dogtoothed snapper for florida. they get pretty beefy over in the bahamas. aquiles got this guy in about 80'. for some reason, we've always found these guys deep.

mutton snapper

my favorite fish to eat and hunt! these guys are not easy. they cruise on the outsides of the reef and can haul some booty when you're about to pull that trigger. they have the best reflexes of all the fish we hunt. they are definitely the tastiest, though. aquiles' family cooks them whole after stuffing the stomach/ribcage w/ lobster and seasonings. :p :p :p :p :p

Man ....

.. I need to get myself a waterproof camera ..... well, a camera any way !

Great photos. Great thread (although it almost died after my 'Kenya' post :D )

Wish I could contribute! Will try

Breeet!...Foul!:D

Lobster stuffed fish is going too far. Penalty for food pornography is cooking dinner for us when we end up diving the same waters (I will do the dishes). 4pm here and all I have eaten today is one &#^*!%@ donut. Now I am going to have to quit work and go home to check the rigging on my speargun-uuuhh I mean uuuuh cook dinner.

Thanks for the great photos and the great mindcandy, makes the work bearable (or fishable).

Aaron

ps, your thoughts about making a speargun that looks like a walking staff for fw fishing places like....CO or CA?

Now that I have finally figured out how to attach photos I can post a picture that a freind took of my wife.
We got to freedive with whale sharks In Utlia last summer. It was very cool!

That's it ...

I resign. I'm gonna spend every second of every day in the water now !!

Anyone know of someone looking to employ a professional diving bum?

how about an amateur diving bum?

All these fantastic photos... can't wait to go check out some spearguns. I think I'll have to give spearing a try this summer. It's only rough fish around here that are legal to take I believe, but as I'm looking over the spearguns maybe the dealer can enlighten me on the rules and regs. Neat thread.

Oh I just had to post my picture up here....I wish I would be diving.....not surfing the net...$£^%^%&

Ok guys, time for some safety....I have noticed in some of the pictures posted that there are snorkels in mouths underwater. This is a big no-no. I realise that it's comfortable, holds the snorkel in place, etc, and that most of us were taught that way (ie: OW Scuba Course), but it's a big problem if you black out. The snorkel makes a clear route for water to enter your throat, whereas if your mouth is closed without a snorkel then the likelihood of water getting past your throat is greatly lessened.
After your breathe-up, spit your snorkel out with your tongue and leave it out. If you finish your breathe-up on your back, then leave the snorkel out: don't put it back in when you're at the bottom .
I'm generally not a preacher, but this is safety stuff so forgive me, but feel free to argue.
Respectfully,
Erik Y.

Good advice

Hey Erik thanks for picking up on that. I wonder how many of us have looked at the pictures and simply failed to notice this. I know I have and I know to spit my snorkle.
