Re: Athlete List World Championships Sharm 2007

Great stuff Simo, sounds like everyone's having a blast.

Say hi to all the Fin guys for me - tell Antero to do some Guinness fishing

Cheers,
Ben

Re: AIDA WC Website - Sharm 2007

the site link on AIDA Int is
4th Individual World Championship
but doesn't go anywhere apart from a front page

That's actually an enfringement of AIDA rules - as a comp organiser I always work really hard to make sure we meet all the requirements including the web requirements - how come the hosts of the biggest event of the year don't have to!!! It would be nice to see what's going on : (

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.................

Re: AIDA WC Website - Sharm 2007

Hi, you need to click the text "4th freediving champs" or whatever, it's a link. Granted the site is a bit confusing, but there is more (athlete lists for example) if you dig deep. The way they put links on top of pictures is a bit confusing, as people don't automatically associate it with a link (it looks like text has been put to the image it self).

Hopefully they get results up and running in a reasonable time. The internet connection here is actually pretty good (free wifi on the hotel area), so that's no excuse . Apart from the website, I must say the organization has so far really impressed me.

Re: AIDA WC Website - Sharm 2007

Sam,
If you click in the middle of the page of the link that you posted above it goes into another page but still not to the athletes list and other stuff, let alone updates.
I guess that you, like me, were hoping to keep an eye on what's happening out there during, or at least, not long after the events.
Does any one have any useful links? Also it would be great if someone out in Sharm could start a thread similar to the Live from Egypt 2006 that we did last year. That way we could all just go there for info like we did with Triple Depth 2007 thread.

Re: Sharm Individual World Champs

Hijacking this thread for the purpose of Sharm World Championships updates.

So.... what news of the Red?

Re: AIDA WC Website - Sharm 2007

Slow day at the office

Hya all,
after the first day's communication black out the organiser got a proper WiFi center setup at the hotel with a good connection so you'll be getting info pretty quickly (I guess)
Ok so what's happening? Everything is setup brilliantly - tons of warm up lines were ready from day one with very helpful safetydivers available even during the unofficial training days so everybody is happy about the setup. Most of the athletes are here and training. We had the first official comp meeting yesterday and everything seems to be very well organised.
The hotel is great - food is good (no yala yala cases reported thus far).
Conditions in the water are great (27C surface no current no thermoclines) and outside it is sunny and warm with just a hint of wind in the mornings.

So all in all we are having a great time - training is going great - stay tuned

Cheers Stavros

PS1. Most of the "big" names are here and according to what they say training is going great although I have yet to hear any ridiculously big numbers
PS2. I have already heard of two training BOs during the first couple of days (no further info can be made available at this point)

Man wasn't expecting an update that quick! Thanks Stavros.

So first announcements are on Tuesday evening?

Out of curiosity what's the vis like and what depth are the lines in?

Thanks for keeping us posted Stavros. This is now the official DeeperBlue Sharm 2007 information thread cos Benny B said so!
So all you guys and gals on site please, please, please keep us posted on how the training is going and all the behind the scenes goings on.
Matt
BTW Get well soon Liv.

Re: AIDA WC Website - Sharm 2007

Today we made TWO nice divelines with marks down to 120 meter (just in case)

In CWT, with many training days left we already have 4 guys to 100 or deeper, two girls and 3 more guys to 90+. Then there is two more girls to 85+ together with a bunch of guys.

CNF is open for surprises...

Visibility is from good to excellent. On a good day, vertical visibility seems to be 30m or so, today I could see the diver still from 20m or so. At least in my book, that is pretty good.

A bit of current in the late afternoon, but during the day not so much.

We have a setup of 26 warmup lines they are in a sort of a U-shape, with the 2 official competitions lines at the bend. So on both sides of the competition platforms, there is 13 warmup lines. They closer to the competition line you get, the deeper the warmup line. They start from 50 and go up to 85-90m - so I'd say "enough"

Then when you're ready, you just swim up to the platform (any time of the day basically) and say what depth you want and how soon you want your countdown...Then they take care of the rest. Basically, you would not even need a training buddy - everything is taken care of.

I'm sure once the competition gets going we'll have many people reporting almost live what's going on...Right now it's just not that exciting. People just drag about from bed to either breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee or diving. Then again, what more do you want from life?

FYI stavros doesn't look like his avatar much

I am getting excited just reading about the preps . Keep em coming guys/girls and lots of success !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sam, at least some of our team seem to be also thinking of Benny, I guess he made an impression in Maribor

Very good day for me. Past the "yalla yalla"-stage and finally a good, relaxed training dive. What more can you ask? Good food maybe...We'll all I do for the rest of the day after a training dive is eat basically. Getting kind of porky though...

Hmm I'm hearing things about the hotel salad bar, it is taking its toll. And you can only get drinking water in the restaurant? But otherwise it sounds like a really good setup, good luck to everyone, it will be very exciting!

Hey guys!

I arrived yesterday and jumped in the water today for a training session. What everyone has said about the set up here is absolutely true - the Apnea Academy guys here have done an awesome job in setting up an extremely professional training environment. And having safety always in the water is fabulous. No complaints at all, although it's a bit wavy but really that just adds to the fun!

The hotel is great, wireless internet, good food and plenty of it, and it's so much fun to see all these freediving legends here! Very humbling!

The weather is great too - unseasonably warm which makes the training fun. I have to admit that after Triple Depth the prospect of another big comp is a big daunting but we still have a few days to go, so hopefully everything will fall into place by Wednesday!

Anyway, time for bed, dive on!
