Evening dive with Winky in Torbay on Thursday. Started out flat calm with vis of 2-3m. There were some fish around but nothing that was worth shooting and some borderline crabs that I also left to grow. Swell soon picked up to the extent that all that swaying kelp started to make me feel quite sick. Ended up heading for the shallows to photograph squid.

In for an hour tonight to test my new fins. Recommended by the Shiny1 Oracle so they had to be good - didn't they???? Yes, very good fins and soon into a shoal of jumbo mullet. I let them scrape along the tip of the spear and lay motionless hoping a bass might be with them and ... yes. Plump 2lb bass on the spear. Dinner for my littlies sorted. More mullet and one more bass seen but the parking meter and mothers roast beckoned. Good trial for the new fins and a fish to christen them. All Good.

Tribs
out
Viz 4m and milky in places. Budleigh

Got in last night after checking viz first thing 3-4m pretty clear and flat, arrived last night to be met by choppy conditions, stiff NW breeze blowing along beach and a lovely shade of brown. Can't believe it had churned up so much with just a bit of a breeze. Out after 5 minutes moved to Next spot, slightly better 2-3m milky, took mullet and two bass. Out again onto next, same 2-3m viz took another 2 bass, missed good 5lber one of those which are harder to miss!
Scott had said south hams was giving good viz but getting lazy in my old age and stayed local, must get to a few new spots before seasons closes.
One bummer was the loss of my knife, dispatched the last bass and headed in. Went to clean them but no knife in holder, no real pain don't mind replacing items that are worn out, just don't like losing bits that way. Walked the beach with the dog first thing, just in case but no joy. Dug out my old diving knife until I pick up a replacement. Safely say 'it's a machete'

Hi Guys,

Probably the wrong place to post this but would rather you local guys got first sniff of this in case its of any interest.

I have a small pile of used stuff in the shop that needs to go to new homes.

The below Seac items were samples from the Seac Sub rep. So before we brought them they had been shown and traveled around the country. As such (although nothing wrong with them) they were "used" to an extent. We then lent them to Freedive Uk for use over their weekend summer camp they held. So although they have had very little use they are now used.

so here is a list :
SOLD

Seac Genisis (plastic) Fins 44-46 (these seem to have had a harder life and show the scratches they have aquired!) - £30 delivered

SOLD

Seac X Fire 75cm gun £70 delivered

---

SOLD

---
I also have 2 NEW Cressi Tecnica 3.5mm
2 x Cressi Tecnica 3.5mm size 4 £117 (each) delivered - note the 3.5mm thickness!!

If any of this is any use to anyone please can you email me on anthony @ venturesports .co.uk

I will update this list as best i can, obviously it is a case of first come first served.

cheers,

anthony

Anyone fancy a dive in the Torbay area today or tomorrow? Quite fancy getting a few big Mullet for my new smoker. Havent had a dive for 2 weeks and starting to develop a twitch.

Had a look around the southern end of Start Bay last night. Admittedly a little bit optimistic. Couldn't see the end of the gun.

I'm itching to get back in. Come on wind (rain etc) please go away!

Teignmouth on a good day then!!!!

Chances are slim but if any viz seen, can guys post up. All the bay and towards exmouth brown but wondering south hams? Hope cove been very rough obviously! but looking more settled this morning. SW winds picking up again so really not expecting much but you never know?

Was hoping to have a dip tomorrow midday in Torbay but haven't had a chance to get up to the water to see if the calm has produced some vis - from what you say Lee, obviously not. May still bring my gear in and have a look first thing to see if worth getting kitted up. If I do I'll let you know how I get on.
Cheers, D.

Didn't get very close to the water, but was windy in start bay today, and sea was lumpy. It's blowing strong now too so don't fancy the chance of any vis, real shame as am on half term this week so was hoping to get in

Yeah just seen long range no go with strong winds over the weekend. Not happy!!!

My way still brown, any updates for south hams please? Web cams showing conditions all over the place.

Well after a month of dirty stinking crappy weather - yes I am cheesed off!! Headed for the south hams.
Passing blackpool sands sea still quite choppy even though winds had moved round to NW direction, so pushed on towards start point.
On arrival I could hear the waves, so knew there'd be a swell but I wasn't for turning!! Took me an hour to get there!
Anyway worked the beach took an age to see anything, when I did I forgot I was there to shoot the bloody things and off it went into the gloom - 4lb bass come on mate wake up
Pushed on took one over a small reef, the other two taken close in between the rocks. Between 2.5 - 3lb max.
Amazing viz of a metre to zilch. Swell picked up and all viz gone, time to head for home.
On returning home drove onto teignmouth as sea had turned from pooh brown to dull grey, decided to try it as otherwise tonight I'd be back to my old ways kidding myself there was viz. couldn't see my glove let alone end of gun. Out and home for bowl of soup in the early hours. Family happy bass and stir-fry for tea tonight.
Not such a bad dad/hubbie for a day at least!!
