South Devon 2014

It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Yeah that's the guy, had a torch attached to his gun, was chatting to some girls on the beach not sure if he was with them or not

Scallops are out of season at the moment ( till end of sept ) Solo diving is not really encouraged but I do not know if it is " illegal " and the use of a speargun on scuba is allowed but generally frowned on by scuba divers . If this is where I think it is he must be quite fit to get up the path to his car with scuba gear and a sack of scallops !

Was in today in the S Hams, to a spot usually not suitable due to strong currents but with the neap tides thought I would give it a try, good vis 5-6 m, and was hopeful of pollack and / or plaice ,but found loads of mullet and a few bass ... shows how much I know then ! Also found a mask and snorkel , which is a change for me as I often lose stuff .

,Not sure how it could be considered more dangerous than free diving ? unless if diving in close proximity with a buddy as is supposed to be the way with scuba , or perhaps puncturing a dry suit. Divers I have spoken too say they never see bass , probably the noise scares them away .

If anything did go wrong due to the fact of spearing a fish then surfacing to quick would have a pretty serious affect.

Just swam along dawlish warren and it was Pretty bleak. East devon boys were away last week, so we might be out of luck on viz updates. Had SAS reporting possible overflow spillage at bantham and salcombe

Thanks Scrumpy, I'm off fishing, bringing spearing gear as well, just in case vis is ok. will post report.

In again today S hams , vis OK 5-6 metres quite a few bass about but mostly small , took 2 about 2lb ish , very small tides so explored a few areas I would not normally go to . Spoke to some fishermen and anglers and they all say fishing is not good at all at the moment . Has anyone else been in and caught anything ? There seems to be virtually no catch reports on UK and Ireland forums for a while now ( except for the night divers )

Went for a look down at Budleigh yesterday and didn't even bother getting out the car hopefully the weekend will bring some viz!

No good around seaton area, V murky but sea was calm, should clear soon.

Been offline (literally as internet down at home) - but went in last Monday eve in Torquay and got 3 decent mullet and a bass of about 2lb. Going in again after work today. Generally not a lot around as per last few dives, not expecting too much from later. Plan on a South Hams dive tomorrow morning too if conditions permit, not sure where yet though.

Can you keep me posted as just finished 8 day stint and just climbed out my pit. Teignmouth looking pretty green in places but might just be patchy. Might look towards the bay if weekend not as bad

Dived a reef of the beach east Devon this eve, missed a bass took a good mullet vis 3m at best on reef, no vis close in. Huge amount of mackerel of the beach chasing in vast numbers of bait fish, sprat?. Featherd a bag full in no time, perfect as big family BBQ tommorrow.

Well done Dai , I think this is the first catch report in Torbay this year !! I have been out and about a few times but the vis has been poor even after a long calm spell , so usually go further afield .
