goodluck guys...the mackerel are inshore in great numbers......more than I've ever seen; the surface was boiling just 10 yards out.

Hi All,
Slipped in last night as I received an unexpected green light from the boss. Nice relaxed dive, close to home. Two hours in and life in abundance. Mackerel and scad in thousands and hundreds of bass but only saw one sizeable fish and that was a mullet. Took him. Got out in the dark and reached for my knife to start sorting the fish only to find no knife on my leg and no fish on the stringer! Peeved.. Nice dive but costly.

Got in at 830, viz was max 5m but by the end not great. More mullet than I've seen ever before (which is not saying much!). Ended up with 1 of 58cm and 1 of 48cm. No bass seen.

Gutted for you mate.
Got in last night after tribs & those nice boys from east devon gave countless updates on viz. got in at 9pm. 3-4m out going tide from the exe made things hairy. 5 flatties, 5 bass no bigger than 3lb & 1 big mullet. Viz dropped to 1m, dropping down into a gully 2 nice size bass. I went after the 7-8lber for him to disappear, 5lber had been motionless in front of the spear but I ignored him for the bigger one. Turning round 5lber was making a pass in front of me again, only for me to have knocked the safety catch on!!!!! DOOH
On my way back in viz was about a metre, passed a good 7lb bass but unable to turn my gun on him as using my 75, tried to use the reef as a leverage with the spear to turn myself round and he was gone.
Hard hard dive but enjoyable, been ages since I've been in.

Hi All,
In today and somehow managed not to get a shot off although the fish were there. My ears were awful today so battled it all tide.

Hopped in local earlier, stiff easterly and viz still not great so not best of dives. Hardly see end of speargun in some places esp near bottom to a hazy 3-4m in others but looked better further offshore. Plenty about but only came back with 2 bass and a mullet, few larger bass in gloom but a bit skittish.
Cheers
RD

Looking at heading to the Torbay area Monday morning, any updates or predictions on the vis would be much appreciated.

I'm hopefully in tonight so will report back but slight NE/E winds due so the bay might not be your best option. Possibly meadfoot might hold onto the viz or further a field thurlestone side will be flat

I looked at Meadfoot and Babbacombe today (high tide ) and the vis looked the best I have seen it for ages 4-5 metres ... so ........... I am heading S Hams way Tomorrow and monday !!

New PB bass 9.2lb

Not the best photo.

Viz had dropped off with a bit of a swell from the morning. Checked out the viz early Saturday morning with a good 4m and pretty clear.
Slight NW had moved around to a NE and murky, hard on the eyes to pick out any movement. Quite a few bait fish washed up, on entering faced with masses of juvenile bass chasing them. These were followed by a small shoal of mackerel but then the viz dropped off. Found 2 bass early on and then nothing for 2 hours, except for the disappearing tail. Boredom had set in so playing poke on an innocent crab, when the bass moved in and boom.

Been around dawlish and teignmouth today with the gang and no viz seen, just in case anyone heading this way.

Gents, I'm new to the area. I somehow managed to make it here with all of my spearing gear, minus gloves and socks. Any place you can recommend?

Venture sports in Paignton is the place to go for gear but socks and gloves are widely available. Where are you based?

Bournemouth. I was looking at Cornwalldivers and Spearfishing store. Though, neither had much in the giant sized gloves.

Hunt down some windsurfer gloves, very often much better than diver gloves!

Scrumpy you were spot on looked at a spot near babbacombe, didnt either bother getting but vis had held meadfoot way today, maybe 2-3m in places majority quite murky tho, lots of pollack about most small but some takeable. Loads of fry.

Am considering a dive at first light tomorrow morning in Torquay, anyone reckon it will still hold a couple of meters vis?
