South Devon 2014

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Saying that, anyone know what time first light actually is??! Want to be in the water as soon as I can see.

I'm just back from east devon. Viz 2m very murky and interesting dive with out going esturary!! Wouldn't recommend but probably my last dive for 10 Days or so, had to get in. Lots of weed and hard to see unless you were right on top of a fish. Came out with 4 bass nothing of real size, 3 flounder and a nice red mullet. Not many bait fish seen, lots of small red mullet though.
Teignmouth and dawlish both looked grim earlier, doubt anything this side will be great. Easterlies forcast all week, I'd head other side of south hams if I had the chance.
Good luck if you get in mate.

Dunno about Torquay, but it was about 4m at a push in the South Hams yesterday afternoon. I'm off out again this evening so I will update.

To my surprise just back from walking the dog and there's 3m in places at teignmouth.

I'm getting in later today, somewhere sheltered. I'll let you guys know what it's like tonight.

The viz was OK off the S.Hams. It was about five meters and very dark, but that was 42m down. There was a bit of silt in the water, that started to clear the closer we got to shore.

I had about 2-3m on the west side of the hams, pretty cloudy. Completely out of practise! Missed a lot... doh!

Well, its a bit murky out of Plymouth this evening, probably about 2m max. I only saw a school of small bass and that's it.
The water was warm though, and calm.
The worst part of the day however, was having to go shopping on the way home. Sat in the car with the windows up, the smell was a bit "fruity" after a couple hours in the water.
So there I was, in Waitrose, stood in the queue, absolutely reeking of piss and wetsuits, with the attendant and about four other people sniffing, looking around and wondering where the stench was coming from.

Get a pissette fitted. I had one with my last suit included in it when i ordered it. No more smelling like a public urinal ever time you get out of the water.

In today, mud soup. Only a lonely spider and a gaunt pollack seen in the murk.

Tribs

Out

With the easterlies set to stay for a while longer any viz reports for thurlestone side please.
Looks nice and flat on the cams but can't pick up on viz.
Cheers

Easterlies and apparently rumours of dredging in Southampton having an affect with the viz, anybody heard anything?

looking to start venturing further afield, with some of my dives, was wondering if anyone has dived the wreck of the louis sheild? And are there any issues, spearing in the vicinity of this site?

Just the occasional golf ball to watch out for!

is it easy enough to find if the vis is ok?
Louis Sheid is an easy find, easy dive and quite safe if you're happy to swim around it. Have heard it described as a good starter wreck as is so easy to get to, is only in about 8 meters of water and provides enough to look around for interest. Search for it on you Tube to check it out or better still, get in and see it first hand!!

Oh yeah, the important point...never seen any decent fish around it at all. Others may have had a different experience but I have heard others say the same.
