Lovely day out today , fabulous weather , calm (ish ) sea , reasonable vis 5 metres , a few fish around but most borderline on min size , some others I did not get chance to line up a shot or kept their distance , but took this one , about 3 lb , and about 40 - 50 razors , found but failed to get a very large lobster, but enough to eat until next time I am in !!

Nice catch and nice picture (y)

Nice picture! Did you dive for the razors? -you must have it's almost a neap tide. Can you salt them underwater!? Would you mind sharing your trick? I love razor clams!

Yes Halfandy , I salt them out , most of these were in about 5-6 metres , loads around once you know what to look for ! Some for eating others are for bait for a couple of mates , will try using them for bait myself quite soon I expect , have been told it is a good bait for when the water is too murky for lures ..... as in Teignmouth !!

Awesome! Thanks. I've seen a few beds underwater, I tried digging them - resulting in a massive cloud of sand, and tried stabbing my knife under them but they are too damn fast. I never thought salt would work underwater.

Dived Torquay area today. Vis 2-4m, the top 30cm was quite murky and the water felt bloody cold in places! Came home with a small pollack to test my new filleting knife, two bass both around 50cm, and a dog fish - I try one or two a year.

Might try a dogfish curry this time...

I tried diving a spot between Dawlish and Teignmouth yesterday. Unsurprisingly, the vis was rubbish. I could only just make out the end of my spear. Even after swimming out 150m there was no improvement.
Tried a different beach, getting in at dusk. Vis was better - around 3-4m. There were schools of mackerel and scad, a few small rays (45cm across) and other small flat fish. There were also quite a lot of small squid and bib about which got me hoping for some bigger fish. After 2 hours or so I gave up having seen nothing worth taking.
I might make a trip to Torquay later, this'll be my last chance for a little while.

I also found 0 viz. 1 bass taken around 3lb, saw a couple 5-6 lb range but couldn't follow them in the gloom.
Viz update seen yesterday (Monday)
Babbacombe crystal clear. - why oh why didn't I dive there!!
Ansteys cove same
Meadfoot 2m Max
Paignton beach 5-6m

So anything this side of hopes nose or paignton way.

Quick dive north of Torquay yesterday. I'm not sure about crystal clear, but there was a good 5m vis in the shallows. At the bottom of the slope it was maybe a murky 3m. Missed two long shots on tidy mullet. Came home with another small pollack (40cm). I didn't see much else, but didn't expect to as its a popular site for scuba. Mostly a dive for fun.

Many thanks to Pointandhope for posting the previous video on filleting pollack, they are now firmly on the list. Lovely. I don't normally fillet fish, I just eat off the bones. It's worth the effort with pollack.

Also, I've made a (friendly) bet with an angler that I'll get a cod before him. Anyone willing to share a good spot for a cod?

Got in last night at my crystal clear spot babbacombe !! Unfortunately it wasn't anymore.
3 dire dives this week, so much so it's to painful to talk about.
Guinness and rugby is helping me through a painful week.

How deep do you want to go!!!

I was under the impression that cod come close to shore in the winter months. I remember my grandfather telling me they stay just behind where the waves start to break.
Alternatively its wreck diving or find a deep reef. I feel comfortable enough at 10-15m which isn't really enough to be reaching many of the wrecks around here so I guess I'm looking behind the surf.
