Dived meadfoot this morning, nothing bagged but plenty seen, bass of 2 to 3 pound feeding off the small pollack and 1 - 2 pound pollack around towards the harbour. Saw loads of divers and a few fisherman drowning worms off the rocks and even bumped into ALLEN B, How did you get on mate?

the viz was good in most places 2-3 meters and fantastic 5-6 meters (for meadfoot) further out. my deepest dive of 7 meters had the best viz over a reef with plenty to see and dog fish everywhere. . was planning to take just the camera in but left the batterys in the charger DOH!!! so took the gun instead.

Meadfoot seems to be a dive spot mainly for the tide on the way up as I dived yesterdsay around 14:00 and apart from the wrasse and doggies there was not much to be seen at all where as the 7am dive today was the opposit. .

Might give start point a go tomorrow as Ive heard some decent size pollack are about

Happy Spearing

Thanks Spaniard. the family got me a new low volume mask for my b-day so been very busy putting it thru it's trials, wait till they find out what I want for xmas

Hello all,

Planning to dive in the Plymouth area tomorrow, thinking of just going to Bovisands.
Any better suggestions?

Anyone been spearfishing in the area today? If so, what were conditions like?

I dived off Kingsand and Cawsand yesterday. It was quite cold, but after my face, hands and feet froze, I was fine. The viz was about 2-3 meters and quite murkey. We were in for about two hours and only saw a couple of big wrasse. All the bass and mullet seem to have gone. Only five months until they come back!

Fished budleigh earlier today and visability was amazing as was the chubby mullet now sat in my fridge. I thought the sea was warm today, the river on the other hand was absolutely freezing! Fished Brixham with the rod tonight until an hour ago
1am ish - rubbish nothing except one fluked scallop!

Hi Scott nice to meet you yesterday, and hi to every one on the forum, I’ve not posted for some time as life has been a bit of a roller coaster ride this year, hopefully things will settle down next year and I can get out spearing more often.

In the half hour it took me to kit the yak up and get in, the water had gone from millpond to a little chop blowing up from the southwest, so first stop was East Shag Rock, anchoring in the lea of the rock.

What a surprise dropping in, there was my anchor on the bottom in 8mtr of water and I could sill see it. Spent an hour going around the rock, diving depths between 6mtr and 9mtr, I love this type of diving as its all vertical walls and over hangs, and plenty of marine life too.
The rock is covered in fish but unfortunately it’s all Wrasse and small Pollack.

My next location was to be Thatcher rock but the wind had picked up some more and I didn’t fancy the long slog back against the wind and tide So went out to the Morris Rogue but only managed five dives before giving up as the tide was running and the yak was slamming about in the short steep chop.

A 20-minute paddle up wind and my final stop was at West Shag Rock, it’s like East Shag but a lot smaller the only difference was I made contact with my first Bass of the day, a shoal of about 15 fish all far to small to shoot. So after another hour of mooching about I headed back to Meadfoot Beach which was an easy paddle with the Wind behind me.

No fish but a fabulous day.

Didn't get out today.

The weather closed in and it looked far too rough. Not to mention cold and horrible.
Used the time to get dive gear together, so not a wasted day by any means.

Did anyone get out today?

Seatec foot pockets with Apnea Sub fibre plastic Power blades, spot on for me and purchased from Spearo Dave’s fine emporium.
this may be a bit stupid question but what is the diffrent between seatecfoot pockets and normal ones

The seatecfoot pockets just happen to fit my feet a bit better than Omer or any of the others. They seem to bit wider so with a 5mm sock they don’t crush your feet which could result in foot cramp.
Hope this helps.

had a nice dive in bigbury bay from the boa at reef/pinacle, 7-15mts nice viz 6-7mts?, 10+ bass 2-6lbs but abit edgy/spooked easy didnt come close, so came home empty handed.... normal compliment of pollock but not big enough to be curry etc. water 12 deg. nice afternoon dive. wave charts look huge for the weekend so maybe no more diving for a while.

Grunter - you are a man who knows his Pollack - what is the season for them? Are they more present in Summer than Winter or are they a Winter fish like the other members of the Cod family. I never see any Pollack worth taking - I think this is definately based on the locations I go to being too shallow and not enough deep drop-offs/pinnacles/wrecks etc. But the I have no clear idea of the best time of year?

I bought the anglers magazine today to see what all this COD hype is about amongst the fisherman and to see if Its possible to take them on with a speargun :martial

WHile flicking thru the mag my jaw dropped as I turned to page with a picture of a tuna.....Caught in Ireland!!!!

I instatly had visions of blue water hunting off the back of a charter boat for this amasing fish. Can you imagine the thrill and chase as you bag your first one.

Scott there are several discussions on the forum relating to the Irish tuna but dont get to excited there are not that many tuna out there!
James Pollock are around all year but the warmer months see them come in closer, traditionally the big ones are caught in the winter but in deep water.

Anyone packed there gear away yet? Ive not, infact ive put in 3 new dive spots on the navman to try in the run up to xmas.

Dived meadfoot on Sunday and although not much seen I still enjoyed myself and managed to bag a 2lb mullet .I cant bring myself to pack the gear away and wait till april next year:head

Dived Brixham today as its the only sheltered spot I could find. Its been a while since I last dived there and forgot how much fishing line is down there Scary Stuff really.

swam over to shoalstone and shot the mullet pictured on the way. Weather turned really bad with the wind blowing like crazy so knocked it on the head and got out.

Weather report says the winds going to pick up even more for the weekand so cant see me getting in again for a while
