Any1 ever dive blackpoolsands or around Dartmouth? I was having a look at the map and there seem to be a few possible spots

I haven't but was planning to explore Blackpool Sands in the Summer - so would be interested to hear what you find.

It's good to see the more experienced spearos mentoring/supporting the youngsters. Especially as this is an activity that is not without danger.

Dived beer saturday viz was a misty 2m, didnt see anything so moved off to portland the next day. The wind changed and picked up so didnt bother getting in! Going to try Teighmouth and babbacombe next weekend!

Mr X - I plan to do blackpool sands in about 2 weeks and will take the camera with so will post the pics of my catch . ANy1 see the rib they got in lidls for £299 looks like a nice size.

A question what fins what are you guys using? i have two pairs of plastic long bladed fins but they develop a memory after a few months and loss their power.
Not to sure about going carbon or not!.

Hi Spearheads,just bought a pair of Omer Ice from Italy didnt want spend much money but i saw the price and I was shocked(100 €)waiting for the deliver and looking forward to try it.I'll let you know soon the performance. Never used the carbon but I heard they are fantastic specially the C4 and Omer.I've a pair of Cressi 2000 not too bad but not recomandable for advanced spearos or for who wants better performance.

I use the ice fins they are really comfortable just right for a days diving! I think the carbons aren't as robust as the plastic ones, there best for the deeper boat diver 10m+ as they are stiffer and therfore gives you a lot more power to get you off the bottom at depth!

just signed up for my freediving course then i to will be able to get down to 10m+

Thats what im looking for some deeper diving fins 10meter + , and use the plastic fins for shallow diving.

The Omer bats look tempting.

20m i dont think id like to go that deep. who knows i might be swimming like a fish after this course! Its with a lady called Sam Kirby!? its in Chepstow so it could be something to do with salt free.

Don't you mean so people don't pick them up and put them in their car.rofl
I was on a roll for losing or forgetting my gear , the only thing that made it back was my wetsuit and flout.

how was the viz i noticed it was flat today but it gets dark to early for a quick dive.

That navy ship is the fisheries bout that catches the foreign trawlers coming into the bay.
I would like to get in this weekend but i'm doing ten tors training:head .

Just joined this forum and was after some genuine advice. I bought a basic gun and pottered around last summer but now I want to get a bit more serious but i can't find a camouflage 7mm spearfisjing wetsuit any closer ythan jersey for nearly £170.
Any ideas?

Yeah definatley have a chat with dave at Spearguns by Spearo uk ltd finest supplier of speargun, monofins, speargun and freediving equipment , he will give you the advice you need, and i can't praise his service enough. However scottie was kinda spot on with sayign that you will be hard pushed to find a quality 7mm spearing suit for under £170 with camo.

Where abouts will you be using the suit? i recently jumped from a surf suit to a 5mm smoothskin spearing suit, and to be honest i haven't been cold at all yet, and i have stayed in for over 4hours recently ( i had to get out because of cramp!!)


You could also check otu the gurnsey thread of this year, some of the boys over there also just bought suits, so you may want to read about their decisions etc.

I would not go for smooth skin outer for a first suit ,you will trash it, well that's if you are like me but interior open cell is great, .
7mm sounds a bit to thick for summer diving a 5mm would be better.

Cramp, i got that last weekend after 5hours, i got it in my left leg on a dive and trying to resurface with one working leg wasn't fun.

Trust me you dont need a 7mm suit it is overkill. a 5mm spearo suit is all you need. I have a 7mm suit and regret getting it, even now when when I get in the water its like stepping into a sauna.

If you are buying just one suit get a 5mm as it will do for most of the time when there are fish around. If you are skinny like me you will appreciate a 7mm for early and late season (wish I had one!)

Ive been looking at microsofts live search and noticed that the bay now has the BIRDS EYE VIEW maps which are pretty damn recent as they show the new mini golf course been built on Paignton green. I think this is great as the maps give good pictures to look for new dive spots. Does anyone else use these maps?

I agree, for the UK a 5mm is a fine, all-round suit. It rarely gets cold enough for 7mm thanks to our new friend, global warming.....I should know, I'm a complete wuss for cold and if I can manage it..........
