No joke, on a piece of bread with a bit of mayo, it's the best! ;-) We frenchies will eat anything mate...!

No worries, I wouldn't dream of of disturbing crab pots but I'm reassured to see a lobster so close to the shore. Wondering what's the viz is going to be for the weekend?

surcouf you will have to keep your eye on the webcams for the viz this weekend the light eastlys brought in a small swell but should clear for Friday.

2 days of south westerlys coming thru should clear a few spots up by Friday and with it been an early evening high tide I reckon a dive could be squeezed in:):):)

Killien u away this weekend bud?

Yeah mate, going to france with some students for revision before exams next week. Would like to go diving on Monday (bank hol) if possible. I ll get in touch when come back.

Hi All

Fished Budleigh yesterday to no avail, good viz in places 4-6m but no fish showing. stayed close in as the sea was getting up. managed to put a 4" gash in the top of my wetsuit leg when the butt of my Seatec slipped off my buckle whilst loading . Any ideas on how best to fix an Elios? L shaped tear - glue or patch or both?

Tribs - what I have done in the past for tears in my Elios is first glue the two tear edges using black witch (following instructions) and if the material is not smooth skin but has nylon I also put stitches through the material spanning the tear like you would for any material tear fixes.

Worked fine for me. Didn't use a patch at all but judging from the strength of the gun pads on elios suits that could be a good option.

I dived the high tide today in the bay and had some really nice viz in places around the 5 meter mark. Saw loads of pollack but all a bit small, saw some monster wrasse which didnt seem phased by me at all but no mr bass and no mullet.

while lying in the kelp I watched the pollack feeding off the small bait fish which was pretty cool. kind of made me wish I had taken the camera .

Hi James

Got hold of some stuff called Aquaseal so taking your advice and giving it a bash myself. Will stitch in the morrow.

Hi all.
I went for an evening dive off Heybrook Bay yesterday. Really high tide and a bit of swell, so the viz wasn't great close in, but cleared a bit further out. Didn't see much at all though. Just a shoal of small Pollock and a lone wrasse and thats it. I swam over to the other side of Renny Rocks to some sandy patches and there were no flatties either. The water felt a bit warmer though, so it was still enjoyable.

I'll probably go for a dive Monday afternoon around Heybrook or Wembury if anyone wants to meet up. PM me.

Chris

Dived the south hams Yesterday and had stunning 10 meters viz, nice clear 11 deg water, saw loads of pollack and bagged 2 for my dinner.

Found a few new spots along the way and one in particular which is supposed to be a hot spot for bass so might have to do a dawny tomorrow. will keep you posted.

Anyone been in around the bay today? it looks calm but that easterly must have churned things up.

Scott

Walked along the Paighton coast today and the water looked like gin from the path.
On a sadder note, had a look at Budleigh today to find a helicopter coastguard and the lifeboat working over the Otter ledge. Don't know the result but it wasn't a nice sight.

A reminder to us all in the water.

Hi scott,
What weather like down your side? Just come back from france late last night and want to go in today. Wondered what it was like in Budleigh as well? Can anyone help?

Killien

Went into Budleigh today and the soup like water was slightly better than Friday. Loads of Spider crabs about and some big dogfish laid up in the weed. Saw some ghosts again as they kept on the edge of vision, mullet from the tail fin i caught a glimpse of. Nothing remarkable except the swell rolling over the front of the reef 3 ft at times.

Looking good for the coming season though.

Tribs.

Dived the bay today as it will be a while till I get back in. Viz was a shocking 1 meter with a strong current and very fishless. Saw about 20 scuba divers 2 wrasse 5 fisherman and a huge white balloon!!!!! cheers Nick Bye at least you spending our council tax on something useful :)

Anyone one got an opinion on ankle or wrist weights? Back aching from the U shape a weight belt makes me contort into!!!!!!!!!! Forgot my weighted waistcoat (Omer) and was wondering about wrist and ankle weights to level me flat whilst subsurface.

I had wondered about going in so I'm relieved to know that I didn't miss anything by taking the kids surfing instead.

tribs , never heard of wrist weights but I always use ankle weights , 1kg each . They give me good position in the water and help stop fins and legs waving around in a swell , the last thing you need if a good Bass is swimming towards you . So I would recommend them but not everyone likes them , hope this helps a bit.

Ankle weights are very good for shallow water work, especially going indian in the string weed. They help create a better head up/feet down angle that saves neck strain as well as improving stealthy movement.

I also like wieght vests, mainly so you can reduce the amount of lead on the belt and strain on the back. However they have the oposite effect to ankle weights in the shallows making you more head down. I was very pleased with my Seas Sub waist coat style vest with pockets front and back. I feel that it offers better all round weight distribution and makes it acceptable in the shallows.
