Tried Babbacombe today. Vis was very patchy - up to 4m in places and down to 1m in others with loads of floating rubbish. Saw 2 good sized mullet in a hole but my gun was pointing the wrong way and they got away. Tried the scallop spot but it was really murky at the bottom and I didn't have the heart for scratching around 7m down in near zero visibility.

Scott that’s some nice Scallop action you got going on there mate.
Well done :)

Saw a fantastic Bass last night. but Morrisons woulnt let me shoot it!!!!! hrrrumpphh.

where are they all?? its warm enough and Im worried the bloom may appear early

Cheers podge they are always welcome on my dinner plate

doc I reckon another month until the bass come in and knowing our luck it will be the exact same time the sea turns green :)

The bass are already in!. Dived today result 1 mullet. The plankton is blooming or its just still just messed up from those east winds we had.

Im thinking about diving babbacombe tommorrow, Any hints on some good places around that area, its been a while since I dived there and never had much luck :(

Got in this afternoon to find tiny green blobs everywhere so will try and fit as many dives as possible in before the bloom.

I know what a bloom is, but what happens when the bloom arrives?
Just loss of viz?

Spearheads is the only person who seems to be able to get much out of Babbacombe and Oddicombe with any consistency. It's a good place to find shelter from westerly swells, Oddicombe is free parking until May and it is a good place for taking photos of pretty stuff but I never find it fishy as other spots.

A few days ago I saw a couple of nice mullet in a hole among the boulders between Babbacome and Oddicombe and I have had mullet in that area before.

Is anyone going tomorrow? Anywhere? I am going to try Budleigh tomorrow as my first 'in' of the year but didn't get to see the sea before it got dark today? Will it be worth going on the south coast?

Been to brixham and caugh a big brown crab and five good size spider crabs yesterday. Water was nice viz, about 3 meters.

Hi All

Fished Budleigh yesterday to no avail, good viz in places 4-6m but no fish showing. stayed close in as the sea was getting up. managed to put a 4" gash in the top of my wetsuit leg when the butt of my Seatec slipped off my buckle whilst loading . Any ideas on how best to fix an Elios? L shaped tear - glue or patch or both?

Been to Goodrington at 2pm this afternoon for the first dive of the year to test the equipment and viz was 1 to 2m. Saw a nice lobster but it was in a fisherman wire trap cage (is that the correct term for it?) so left it alone.

Thinking about it, I don't know what crime the lobster committed so perhaps I should have helped it with its prison break and given him a lift back home!

That would have been a very bad plan. It's hard enough as it is persuading some fishermen that we are not out to steal their catches!

surcouf, you will come across fisherman's "crab pots" very often when diving. I realise the temptation but please do not disturb the pots in anyway, this would be very bad for our sport.

Strewth mate I will start saving it up for you, put it in the freezer just in case you ever visit us.:t
