Hi Shiny, I had exactly the same trouble with angling boats yesterday. I reckon there ought to be a legal distance they have to keep from dive flags/floats then a poster campaign in the harbours might do some good, letting people know what a dive flag means.

be carefull with the scallops ahahahhahahah i cut my thumb to the bone cutting a nerve with a filleting knife. Had a fun pack holiday to hospital. waited 2 days for the operation in the screaming child ward. Cant dive 4 3 weeks. It could of been worse shooting myself in the foot.

A mate of mine's dad blew his big toe off with a 12 guage. He is not a happy bunny, lost balance & had back problems. Keep the saeety on till just before you pull the trigger!
I'll hopfully meet up with you guys soo. May be on the ExE Spearfish Club meet or in the locality.(Plymouth)
I haven't been out much at all, need to practice diving down. Spend most of my time on top but still shoot the odd fish. I enjoy just looking around, I saw a pipefish in Falmouth which was cool. Unfortunatly the nice mullett saw me 1ST!

I reckon something with a very short, blunt blade might be good (like a RURP) -- watched a girl open a couple of oysters for me in Swanage a few weeks & despite a short blade, she looked like an accident waiting to happen:blackeye. Short knives & round tip knives have their uses.
I know somebody who likes to chop through thick fish bones with my bestest filleting knive. Despite many warnings of "It's a filleting knife. It's meant for filleting fish." I use a large serrated chef's knife or a large serrated dive knife to remove larger fish heads (think 5-7lb wrasse). I finally succumbed and bought a second filleting knife, in the hope that one might survive

Just back from Budleigh and the place was stuffed with fish!!!!!!! Bass and mullet together, trouble was I had a total mare!!!! Left my weight gilet behind and regreted it as i couldn't stay down in shallow water, my weight belt parted as i was lining up a nice 4lber and i shot up like a cork etc etc. The list of things goes on. back tomorrow more weight, more power 90 Gab and different buckle.

Don't want to preach or anything but please be aware the taking of scallops in Devon Fisheries water in July , August and September is illegal . This area runs due south for 6 miles from the Devon/Dorset border , also due south for 6 miles (I think maybe nautical miles ) from the Bolt Tail and includes the area between the two . From Bolt Tail to Rame Head is excluded . Maximum fine is £5000 and they will prosecute for 1 scallop if they deem it appropriate . This law applies to divers & freedivers as well as commercial vessels . Remember this is a public forum , so if you mention taking scallops during these months don't be surprised if a ruddy great fisheries vessel appears outside your house :naughty . Sorry if this has spoilt any plans for scallop suppers but would hate for anybody to get stung £5000

Are you sure? I was told April,May ,June thats why I stopped during those months. ,
How does the goverment expect us to know these things. Not everybody goes on the internet and on forums. I dont know of anywhere, where its written for the public to see. If they going to enforce these laws then it needs to be made clear to the public before hand.

HI Scott he is right there is a ban on picking up scollops in july/aug/sept and they are thinking of adding another month to that so if you value your gear leave the scollops on the bottom till oct , if you get caught they can take your diving gear and your car if they feel fit DAVEO

went in again last night and although the fish weren't in the millions of the previous night there were still plenty about. I finally broke my everlasting drought and pulled in a nice grey and saw plenty of bass cruise past but the 3-5lbers were noticeably lacking from the previous evening???? One small bass stayed with me for ages just off my right shoulder for the best part of 15mins! Things are looking up at last. Viz was up to 5m in the shallows and 3-4 further down and out.

Got a trip planned for the other side on Friday. Not taking the kayak just going with the float as its fishable right from the start.
Dived the bay yesterday and found my chosen spot to have a fairly strong current running which made getting into the kelp interesting and even over shot the ledge a few times , saw a few bass, a monster mullet in a small shoal and small Pollack.
Still havent found any good sized pollack around the bay if anyone can point me in the right direction I would be most happy as they are my prefered eating fish at the moment
I also found an aquatic scuba fish yesterday on my way in, buzzed past him at about 8 meters and probably scared the hell out him. If you read this forum I am Sorry, Didnt mean to.
Had three young kids in a rib miss me by 2 meters even though I had my float next to me then a bloke in a boat come throw anchor right next to the reef I was working
At least he waved to say he was aware I was there
Boat traffic is picking up now and Ive noticed a lot more lost tackle in amogst the rocks. Found a nice dexter wedge near the shoreline always worth a quick rummage, I reckon you could fill ur tackle box in a day if you tried hard enough and at £2.50 a lure thats not bad going.
Although I never took any fish yesterday I still had a good dive and even got to watch a cuttle fish the size of my fist swimming around which was the highlight of my dive as I find them to be amasing to watch.

Nice work Shiny, good to hear there are a few fish about. Were at Heybrook tues & didn't see any bass/mullet.

Is there a trick on the eye with the Gabianno open head spearguns as i seem to have gone low on some fish? Following the line of the bands not the gun perhaps?

Had a go at Seaton Hole today. Vis was up over 5m in places but not a bass or mullet to be seen. Lots of spider crabs and small pollack around plus more than the average amount of big wrasse. As there were so many big wrasse I decided to take one to find out the truth about their edibility. Verdict; quite like tilapia and as such worked well cooked in a Chinese style sauce. The fillets I hacked out on the beach with my dive knife contained only a few big bones but the skin was very tough. Probably won't take another one in a hurry as I have appreciated their aesthetic benefits on many a dive but glad to have tried one.

I heve been struggling out on the boat, got out weds for a go in the afternoon on a wreck, was a bit rough out there & lost 3 fish! Were going for the pollack, had a few 2lb & 1 decent 5lb odd fish.
You seem to know what you are doing..............may be i need help?
Heve a good holl & catch up on your return.

dived meadfoot this evening and apart from the small shoal of mullet It was very quiet. Viz was a cloudy 2 meters with alot of surface muck floating around .
I seem to have pulled a muscle in my left leg which made a planned 4 hour dive a dissapointing 1. Had to cancel tomorrows pollack hunt due to my leg and too top it all off hay fever's kicked in and my bottom time has taken a beating
On a plus side ive found a good housing for my sony handycam which means much better quality video. just have to have a word with the bank manager
