I am not the one who are bitching about it if you take a step back and look who was bitching about you would find out who was it i am not going to point the finger but i do find that they are few hypocrite:rcard spearo who hide behind they keyboard scrutinizing the post on deeper blue and making rude comment so take a step back and a chilled pile and relax it is only fishing after all .I have not survived my cancer battle to have some hypocrite dictating what i should and not do .I no the rules i can read what is legal That is all what i would said on this mater

The Bahamas may be a better option. This East wind is blowing stronger than ever. I can't see many places having viz. Could always try fishing with a rod??

Jeez, give it a rest guys. If you don't like the current legal minimum size, take it up with government (DEFRA bottled the proposed change from 36cm to 40cm at the last minute).

While some might find "large catches" distasteful, let's keep it in perspective: try googling for information on trawlers discarding "bycatch" and you will soon discover than it is common practice to discard tons of fish a day -- a single trawler will discard as much fish in a day as all the spearos in the UK will catch and eat over several years.

How about showing a little more tolerance, respect and politeness for other members, who may not share all of your beliefs or who have not yet aquired your experience/wisdom/...

Ok guys you said to think about the future and i totally agree with you the only problem you are actually shooting the big boys with are all no to us to be the one who reproduce the most so the theory that you try to implying to us does not support it self it is simple the more you shoot the big boys the less they reproduce as the stock off the best specimen diminish correct me if i am wrong

This is true and that's why I shoot mostly 4 to 5 pound fish. They've had a chance to breed but they aren't "super breeders" yet. They are the best size for table fish. I do shoot trophy fish occasionally, maybe 2 or 3 a year over 7 lbs but I try to limit it. In fact I try to shoot as few bass as possible anyway. If you look at my post of last Sunday you'll see that I passed by the bass that I saw.
I'm not saying everyone should do as I do but just that I don't like to see pictures of large numbers of small fish.

well i decided after alot of uming and ahing to get a dive in today wind was from the north but very strong sea looked okay but as i got out it was choppy vis was down aswell

went in search of the beast from the deep and found a pretty impressive doub;e act one weighed in a at 7lb 5oz and the other at 4lb 10oz happy with that saw another wopper but he decided to head away from me must have been 9-10lb still the gamble to goin payed off also had a garfish nipping at my catch :rcard:rcard:rcard

I think its a good thing that everyone is so passionate about these issues, theres nothing worse than indifference. The law is the law whether we like it or not and we all know what the minimum takes sizes are if someone disregards this law and gets caught then thats going to be their problem. I dont believe there are limits on how many fish we can catch so its a non issue, as long as all the fish are eaten and not going to waste I`m happy.

Lets put it in perspective, Im guessing most of those bass will go in the freezer so it means Spearheads probably wont take as many next time or indeed might just have a few days snorkelling.

Folks,
the forum staff has finally stated that it is not convenient to post pics such as the one previously attached to post #1935 in this thread, and that pictures like that are not welcome anymore on the Deeperblue forums.

As some of you remember, the picture displayed a catch of many small fish taken by a single hunter in one single session. It has been clarified they were all legal size, but this is not the point.

After reading all the flames and unfriendly comments that followed post #1935, we (the DB staff members) have just been discussing all day long on the issue, and finally agreed that pictures like that are unconvenient and not welcome.

The reasons are the following:
1) It hurts the feelings of too many people.
2) It causes flames and harsh arguments in the forum.
3) Legal or not, to be fairly honest, it does not give a fair image of our sport.

Spear fish, post pics, feel free to speak your mind but please understand: try a bit of self moderation when you know that your posts might hurt the feelings of many other fellow spearos. I'm sure you all understand.

I had gone for a shore dive on the South coast and I took my Omer atoll body board for the 1st time I had a couple bass and a couple of mullet. I decided to take the scales off them at the waters edge. Grabbed the float and fish and must of left the fins there, or after I changed I could have driven off with them at the roadside. I am going to pick some up tmw while i'm in Bodmin.

Shiny1 is around mate and he's having fish for sure.

I went for an earlyish dive this morning near Plymouth before work . The water was like glass with a nice offshore breeze. Viz was really good, 10m+ again, so maybe a bit too clear. Loads of Pollock around, lots of big 8lb+ Wrasse in the gullies, and shoals of tiny mullett.
Lots of stringweed to explore with an incoming tide. Bass everywhere in the weed, Rowan and I took one each at about 2lb apiece. We found two decent crabs, and Rowan nailed a large cuttle on the way back in. It was a really enjoyable, warm, sunny dive. Just hope it stays that way for the rest of the week!

This is a bit nonsensical: there are as many different measurements of 'hurt feelings' on this forum as there are members.

Apart from that, the viz in the Plymouth area was excellent today at 10 meters plus (a bit too good actually). Had the day off work and took a 3.5lb bass and a slightly smaller mullet to go with him. Plenty of bigger bass about, but a bit difficult to get close to in the clear water.

21 today again,soon be changing my name to old man shiny1.Had a new camera for my birthday with a underwater casing from my girlfriend.Its a Fuji Finepix F100fd.I havent had time to read up on it yet,i need glasses i think.I hope its the right camera for getting some underwater shots.

Well happy birthday Shiny. I have the F31fd which is no longer produced. IMHO the F100fd is now the best one they do for freediving though when I drowned my F31 I bought a secondhand one off ebay for more than the new one cost. That's how much I like it. The F100 was brought out to replace it.
With your hunting skills I'm hoping to see some good pics and vids now.

Hey all,
had the most frustrating dive ever tonight, great visability and loads of bass around - I mean I must have a seen a hundred tonight. However.........
I would say that normally I`m a pretty good shot but tonight I couldnt hit anything not even from really close up, i dont understand it - they just kept dodging the spear :head

I think I might need to replace my rubbers only problem is I dont know what size the rubbers are length or diameter; or which ones to go for i.e rubber or latex? my gun is a 90cm imersion challenger pro - I cant seem to find it on their website.

Anyone got any ideas?

Matt all 90's use approx 23cm long screw in bands or 52cm loop bands with screw on wishbones unless your talking custom bulk rubber or dyneema wishbones. Standard bands are 16mm or sometimes 18mm. 20mm are available but rather specialist. different manufacturers use different types of synthetic rubbers and some people prefer certain brands but the difference is small IMHO.
