What did the ground look like Dave? Were the usual holes clear and naked to the eye? Sorry I couldn't make it but will try to come before heading back to work.

Still cod to be had in the bay, so must get out (or in) soon.

spent the first half hour swimming around finding little patches of viz scattered around the sand gullies but no fish. found the edge of the reef and slightly better viz so swam along the bottom searching for flatties when I came a cross a nice Thorny lying in the sand :friday which weighed in at 14lb 9oz my new PB so stoked

Didnt see anything else after that and as the tide dropped so did the viz so called it a day.

Well done there Scott mate. Getting in paid off then!! Hope you enjoy eating it as much as catching it. Ray wing in black butter maybe? Can't give you rep yet but it's coming.

Scott, you need to wing & skin the fish & then keep it in the fridge for 48 hours.
This will allow the stored ammonia to disperse.
Horrible job but necessary.
I have in fact filleted rays in preference to the normal severing of cartilage in form!
Dont forget the "ray knobs" (cheeks in fact) best bit in my mind.

When I was a kid I loved "skate knobs". They were cooked in butter then milk and thickened with flour.
Since then I've often wondered what part of the skate the knob was.

Whent in on sunday with north1 the viz waz not great the water temp was a freezing 7c did spot few fish but with the viz not great the fish was in front of you giving you little time did see a nice bass 3to 4lb just could not get the shot:vangry:vangry did stay out for the all day but with no luck on the usual spot the hot soup was most welcome on board north manage a nice 4.5lb mullet well done mate:fridaycould not fell my feet for 1H after we arrived i can not believed we lost 8c in 7 weeks since my last dive i think a would wait untill warmer day not a bad season afert all what about you guys good or not good??

well done on that ray scott top fish one off my favorite fish top man mate!!:friday

My missus likes mullet, but personally I'd rather eat the cat! :)

Good effort though mate.

When I worked on a prawn trawler in Australia, there were rumours of lonely fishermen having sex with rays they had caught (although God knows how they managed that).

Get your mate to warm it up a bit first if he's thinking of going down that route.

back to Gaz Ds comment about the Aussie boatmen and the ray,
i do believe that in certain areas like where i live Royal navy servicemen are sometimes fondly referred to as skates. i think there is a link there somewhere!:confused:
