Awesome catch Shiny1 still running circles round the young ones hey roflroflrofl

I got in for a quick mid morning dive today. The reef was looking healthy with plenty small pollack, mullet and wrasse and loads of bait fish. the bloom was in full swing so the viz was a bit crap but very doable. Took a while to find the bass but finaly spotted this beauty hidng in the kelp :friday bang on 6lb so stoked.

Wish it was a hill Speardaver,i would go there more often.

Hoping to try another spot tomorrow afternoon, this place got a mile hike before the Bear Grylls hike down over the cliff. Lots of stops on the way back.

No wonder nobody knows your dive spotsroflrofl.

cheers guys :)

I just fillet the fish Mart, bit of butter, black pepper and a nice white sauce OR if Im feeling really romantic then I batter the fillets and have them with curry sauce :)

Sounds great but why do you gut the fish then?

My Italian friends gut the fish & remove the gills on the beach, I scale my bass on the beach then fillet at home & then return the carcase to the sea - however I do live within sight on the beach.
I think it is a good idea to remove the gut asap but I actually find it much easier to fillet with the gut in place.

To be honest i have tried to fillet fish both gutted and ungutted. I found i tended to cut through the guts when filleting so i always gut them first. I also find it easier with my style of filleting if the guts are removed.

I like your idea of returning the carcase to the sea. I wish i lived close enough to do the same. My bin tends to stink a little if i go spearing early on in the week.

Try putting the guts in the freezer then chuck em in the sea when you can.:)

If you are after a boneless fillet then you knife should travel over the rib cage leaving the gut intact & untouched.
I don't mean to criticise any one - just interested in your methods.
