If you are after a boneless fillet then you knife should travel over the rib cage leaving the gut intact & untouched.
I don't mean to criticise any one - just interested in your methods.
That is the way i do all my round fish with the gut in the fish i was told to removed the gut as apprentice but my knives skills have improved the last 26 years butt that is my personal preference well done scott nice bass

Hey all,

Not strictly spearing but fish related. Took my orkney out last night and just thought i'd pootle about as Steptoe Tribs, looking for flotsom and jetsom- nothing doing until I found an old pot on a unmarked rope and duly benefited to the tune of 4 cock crabs and a lobster! Observation is utmost! Keep your eyes peeled on the low tides guys.
Water still very cold and clouding up with east wind.

Nice one guys - Usual spot? Good to see the BBQ size fish starting to turn up. Should have the newborn into a routine soon and things will settle for me to get wet again. Save some for steptoe!!!!!!:friday

My mate had his 1st fish this evening in his 3mm shorty surf suit. We saw a few more flatties and I took 1. lots of dogfish, pollack and some baitfish but nothing silver. I was really cold after about 1hr 15mins, how he lasted that long I dont know. He said it was the coldest he'd ever been in his life :-)

Scott, thanks for the info on the size 6 Cressi suit, after this evenings coldness he's going online to buy 1.

Bis

PS (he can be the new green horn)

Yeah fair shout Shiny boy. I know how you feel now as Trev had his gun pointing at me this evening. He loaded it on the beach then started walkin out in the water, falling all over the place.

The Horn

Haha, I am surprised there have been no serious accidents with you lot! Bloody southerners!

Shiny, I was looking for a picture of your aluminium camera mount that comes off the side panel of your RA handle but I can't seem to find it?!

Inspired after shiny1's exploration me n Rich decided to try out a new dive site down a particularly ferocious hill which resulted in possibly one of the best dives ive done in the UK. straight into 10m+ water and 10m vis :) loads of life seen and all the more reason to try out some other sites ive been pondering about for ages!

Hi all,
I'm dusting the suit off as I've been busy with work and sailing the last 6 months or so. Viz looks good from the surface any sign of the bloom yet??

Sounds good; i do find new places have an extra excitement about them - especially when you dont know exactly what to expect under the water.

Quick thanks to Dan and Ollie for letting me tag along on Sunday.

Had a nice session even though I lost my Omer Float, drop weight, keep net, line and spare stringer as my float sped out to sea with me in hot persuit. Just couldn't quite catch it and totaly wiped myself out in the process! Had visions of a spiderman re-enactment and headed back to shore:head So if anyone comes accross a nice dive float that would probably be mine:)

Anyways nice to try some different spots even if I'm fish and floatless.....

Christ on a bike! If I'd known it was you I wouldn't have risked life and limb by paddling over to say hi! ;)

But... hats off to yer buddy - over an hour in a shortie at below 10 degrees, now that's comitmitment.

I was out test driving my new fish finder which I am well happy with. Should be just the trick for finding those drop-offs and gulleys.

Good to meet you though.

Ed

At last the longest winter ever is over!

Last dive of 2009 was October 1st. First dive of 2010 was today.

My new suit arrived in October and then the weather turned bad and then work always clashed with the good days. :head

Then I got stuck in Cambodia and missed all of April. Finally I mananged to get a few hours to run down to Seaton for a quick dip. Nothing shot but it was so good to get back in and give the suit its long overdue test dive. Managed a nice bit of portrait photography with a pipefish too :)
