Some Awesome fish taken this weekend gone guys Nicely done




Dived last Friday off the kayak and had a good session ending the day with a mixed bag of bass, flounder and dover sole :friday:friday

Didnt nail any monsters like the rest of you but had a good day out in the sun and calm wind



Rode the current along the gullies to pick off the feeding bass and even managed a video



You just cant beat the taste of a South Devon Bass

Hi fellas,

Am newly signed on to the forums after all my 'spearfishing' searches came back to deeper blue.

I live in Torbay and since getting a new gun earlier this year have been having a reasonable amount of success across the Dart and around Paignton. This despite a lack of ability to hold my breath for any decent length of time.

Am planning a dawn (well maybe 6am) raid over Torquay way. I was thinking Meadfoot having not been in there before and read a few good things but think this SW wind may stir things up in the Bay and may wipe that out. Now thinking Hope's Nose or possibly Babbacombe (having done my PADI there last year). Anyone have any advice on any of the above sites and if the water is likely to be clear? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers for the advice Scott,

Managed to be in the water by 5.15 this am. Viz pretty poor and not the silver critters I was hoping for but finished up with a decent plaice (shot in about 6 foot), a decent mullet and a fat clawed spider crab (I'm with the French on their eating qualities).

Anybody know if the Salcombe estuary is liable to be clear tomoz? Don't fancy the drive down to be swimming in soup.

Where about you thinking of going in the estuary? tide is high around midday, swell and wind are low so should be alright if the rain holds off tonight.

Thanks Joe, will give it a try. I was thinking of going off South Beach heading seawards. Is Splat Cove the next little beach around as I understand you can only take the bass from outside there? If I manage to see and shoot any that is. Hopefully a few flatties around.

Had a nice catch today, all in 17 meters water. Was exhausted after 3 hours and a long swim back, yet a great days fishing.

Hey all, I see a lot of you posting mullet on here. Shot one by accident last week (end of breath silver flash),have eaten them before but I don't really like em. But any suggestions for recipes? Otherwise I'll end up giving it away.

River or open water caught, so to speak? Fresh water biguns are the way forward..More chunky and flavour holding than bass...A MEATY fish..If you like, slash down the flanks, a grating of ginger, chili or chili flakes, bit of thyme and rosemary olive oil, garlic, butter,salt or just pepper i find works a treat and a dousing of white wine, laid in foil wrapped and steamed in it all, up to 20 mins on a bbq...Can't go wrong..Enjoy!

It's open water caught, I would definitely avoid river or harbour fish don't think I could stomach thinking what their diet would be based on. That sounds like a nice recipe though might give it a whirl.

I know that mullet are very high in iodine which Is good but there is a funny taste I can't put my finger on that I don't like (almost metallic) I'm not sure if its the iodine
