South Devon Report 2011

Hello all - as per last year (and the ones before ) the LIC will be hosting the pairs competition down at the O'Three facilities in Portland on Saturday the 9th July. This is not a regular comp and is based on specimen fish only - but moreover it is a good laugh with a BBQ and something to drink after.

Last year we had 60 competitors and 100 people at the BBQ.

You can fish anywhere in the UK during the day as long as you weigh-in at 4pm.

Hi All took out a newbe with me today must say he was good doing all i could do and more . Some say i am getting to old for this sport i dont think so .Stopped off at a few spots vis not good mybe 2mtrs max many places less, well this is were the fun started the lobster hotel .is there anyone in looked in the hole theres a big tail looking at me hand in out it comes wooooooooooooooo a hole 10.8oz big boy . moved on next spot layed on the bottom beside a rock out of the dust came a bass about 2/3 lb and he went in a blink .Finish up with small bag of scollops and about 14 mackrel

Hi, another day at Bigbury for me. It was just a day at the beach with mates but bought my gear along anyway. Got in two hours before the low tide so wasnt expecting much. No sooner than i had loaded my gun a saw a shoal of decent sized bass, i was so surprised that I didnt shoot immediately and ended up missing my chance and i have never been so p***ed off. Didnt see any other fish apart from many many large wrasse, I did however see many large spiders, so i took one male that weighed in at 4lb 10oz. Which i am pretty happy with, might even enter it in OMD FOM. I also got some motion sickness pills and wasnt sick this time which was a nice feeling.

Hi all, just made the massive spider i got yesterday into a crab carbonara, which is very very tasty with a little lemon squeezed over to lighten it up. Also a little less bacon as well.

I had an issue cooking the crab, i got it home and there was no pan anywhere near large enough. So i dispatched it with a sharp knife in the soft spot under the flap on his belly. Then i just bashed him in the oven for 30 mins and he was done. Then picked it over, most meat in the claws then some in the legs and plenty in the body too.

My wife makes jam and had been wanting a nice big stainless steel preserving pan for a while. She got one the day I caught a 6lb lobster

Thanks Tribs, was thinking of going to Sandy Bay for a few spiders later, maybe not worth it if vis at Budleigh is 0? Hopefully it will be better by Sun, be good to meet some of you guys if anyone else is going out

Out on the boat today around the bay, the bloom is bad and viz was near non existent everywhere we went so gave up. Highlight of the trip has to be the pod of dolphins we found in the middle of the bay great site and managed to get a little bit of video

Decided to get in today as it has been a while due to the wind. When I arrived there was a bit of a chop to the sea and a slight swell. I started to get changed and realised I had left my socks home. I decided to improvise. I had an old pair of gloves with me so I pulled them up over my feet LOL. I cut the fingertips off and tucked the thumb parts in. The viz was not good and there was a guy laying out a very long gill net not to far off shore. I got cold pretty quick but did manage a bass which was bang on 3lbs. Saw a couple more bass and lots of little pollack. Nice to get in though. I'll have another go on Thursday. Still a bit of greenhorn going on.

Here is a pic of the glove socks anyone else had to do this?
