Hey, Just got back from a very long weekend camping at Bigbury. Went out every day sometimes twice a day, as well as a night dive. The weather was a complete mess so the vis wasnt amazing, between 3m and 6m. I got some sea sickness pills called sturgeron 15 which completely stopped me getting motion sickness all weekend. I didnt manage to see any silver fish but did see several large pollock and still loads of massive spider crabs about as well as the usual wrasse everywhere. On the night dive we saw lots of little cuttlefish type things hiding in the sand, anyone know if they are edible? Great weekend all in all.

Greg.

If they are cuttlefish then yep they are edible, not tried them myself though - just waiting til the day I see one!

I went to Sandy Bay yesterday, vis was rubbish, saw a couple of baitfish and 1 wrasse, but found a few decent spiders which turned into some pretty good crabcakes with a bit of ginger garlic chilli and coriander - ace!

Decided to get in today as it has been a while due to the wind. When I arrived there was a bit of a chop to the sea and a slight swell. I started to get changed and realised I had left my socks home. I decided to improvise. I had an old pair of gloves with me so I pulled them up over my feet LOL. I cut the fingertips off and tucked the thumb parts in. The viz was not good and there was a guy laying out a very long gill net not to far off shore. I got cold pretty quick but did manage a bass which was bang on 3lbs. Saw a couple more bass and lots of little pollack. Nice to get in though. I'll have another go on Thursday. Still a bit of greenhorn going on.

Here is a pic of the glove socks :-) anyone else had to do this?

Podge, that brought a smile didn't it boy.

Hi All,

Out at the last minute but scored a plump mullet at spot B and saw many more flash past in the gloom. I was fishing with my 60 and could just see the orange spray point on my tip. One fish came in slower then turned and i had that satisfying shot where you can't see the fish but guessed where it would be and fired. Fired into the gloom and the line snapped taut - result 3lb mullet through the gill plate. More seen, all good size but the tide was awesome and seeings as though i didn't have chopper cover i cruised the dive hunter in through the rocks and out for a well deserved tonic to get rid of my cramp!!!!

Well done Sharper. Just remember; don't be tempted by the lure of the dark eyed sea trout or the plod won't be best pleased.

Sharp shooting to you

Hi All,

Out today in the boat and boy was the vis terrible. I managed two good mullet and then managed to pick up a bigger catch around 175lb in weight - Crazywind. I heard this whistle in the middle of the baybto find he'd swum out to us. Anywho, we moved up towards the point and it was worse still vis wise. Ollie got 3 mullet including two golden greys from his little favourite hole and i struggled to get my pots into the spot i wanted. Still, a tough day but five fish came home and the pots reset so can't complain.

Indeed! Nice to see them though since there are so few left - they seem to hang around this spot filling up on some of the largest sand eels I've ever seen.

Dissapointing dive at Heybrook last night. Vis was OK about 4m but only saw a few baby Pollack, a few Wrasse and one very spooky Bass that appeared and dissappeared right at the end of a breath hold.

Saw a few nice spiders on the way back in but didn't take them. Does anybody know if its still sketchy to take crustaceans and shellfish from Heybrook? There used to be a sign warning against it due to the outfall there, but I haven't seen it in ages.

Bring on the weekend and some better luck!

S

Sea Trout, along with Salmon are classified as gamefish, so spearing them in the UK is a legal no no. You can however, spearfish for them legally in the channel islands.

I've taken a few crabs and lobsters from there, and they've been fine. I'm not sure if there is still a problem there, never seen any sewerge myself, though a quick phone call to the council or environment agency might give you some info.

I've seen loads of salmon, sea trout and twait shad in a good s-hams mark this week too. Looks promising

Nice one Shiny1 thats a cracking plaice mate :)

The Bay was like a mill pond today so had a nice easy shore dive , viz was a patchy 3 meters with a fair bit of bloom about, only saw schoolie bass so took 2 plump 3lb pollack out of a shoal and a lone flounder cruising the sand patch on the way back to the beach. :)
