Don't worry it is always the same dp member who make those coments that is why lots of top gun don't post on dp any more i think it is a shame it is a spearfishing forum and i do think if you find a member who give some anti social attitude like this in any organization the member get the boot i think the big guys who run this weebsite should look in to this before any body is to scared to post any pictures with more than 2 fish

I'm disappointed if ye guys are not posting here... we are very small in ireland for spearing and I for one quite like the reports, pics and vids that are put on here and the other regional threads... Shame to think that people have stopped and moved their reports offline... :(

As far as I'm concerned if you are going to eat your catch or give it to someone who will eat them then why not. Spearfishing is about as sustainable as it gets (especially with my level of accuracy!)

As far as mullet goes I've shot four this year and all have tasted pretty damned good despite a couple of them being taken pretty close to a muddy harbour. I'm starting to think there isn't a whole world of difference between them and bass. Having said that I cut the gut surround out entirely and as mentioned tend to slit the gills after catching for a whiter flesh.

As far as recipes go they are good on their own or as part of a fish stew. Fry a leek or onion, some garlic and a wee bit of a chilli, add a glass of white wine, some fish stock, fresh toms and a tin of toms then add the fish till just cooked through and serve with a big dollop of garlic mayo and crusty bread. Oh and the rest of the bottle of white wine.

Without giving specifics does anyone know any general areas where I might find some nice clear water that isn't a million miles from Torbay? Being new to spearfishing I'm finding the biggest challenge is finding clear water to shoot seaweed in.

Any tips much appreciated.

Like Dave L said Mate give Thurlestone a crack. Southerlies ruin the viz as well as south westerlies and it can get very busy down there with holiday makers but its a nice beach and the viz can be Very good.

I had a pretty good dive yesterday evening. The viz wask OK, with a little swell. The first meter or so was alge bloom, and it was 6-7m viz below. And quite warm too! I saw no silver fish or large pollock, so I ended up taking a couple of flounders that I found on the swim back in.

hi all went for a dive yesterday ended up with 4 bass 1 mullet, dad went the day before he had 5 bass so it looks like the bass are starting to come in bet late than never. went for a quick one today viz not so good but got 1 bass and 1 mullet. happy hunting

South hams is rough and blown out with these winds Matt Torbay im not sure. The winds supposed to pickup tomorrow but im sure there will be somewhere shelted from the wind.

im just leaving now so will give you an update later on if thats any help. Heard of plenty fish been landed so got to be worth a crack :)
