Scott,

sound like you're doing the spiders to death there...try blanching for 2-3 mins, then putting on BBQ, works a treat..Best food there is.

Will give it a go Robbo . To be honest they never tasted over cooked. Steaming crab takes a lot longer than boiling so 10 minutes is not really that long. Its time those big boys showed up im hungry :friday:friday:friday

I seen a few big spiders tonight scott,so they are in. No fish seen just brown crab and lobbys. I had no bag so left them be until the swim in when i picked up 1 of each. I should of been a juggler swimming in with 1 in each hand and a gun.

Sadly it is not about my spear fishing adventure it is about this french chef cooking in new tv competitions call marco pierre white kitchen wars

Got in early this morning on the high tide, not the most sensible way to start the season! Reasonable viz for the spot 2-3m, quite green and snotty especially in the top few metres. No silvers seen (in fact no fish at all!!), just one plaice for the pan on the way back in. Looking forward to the season ahead!

For a lot of people a plaice is a far more desirable eating fish than a bass & that includes me!

Hi all, went in today (hope cove) there was a small swell running about 1-2 foot which made a mess of the vis 2-3 metres at best ,no fish and no spider crabs yet either ! There was a large rescue on the beach, inshore lifeboat, first responder, ambulance ,coastguard and eventually a helicopter , 2 people had fallen out of a kayak and were very cold !! I know being cold can be dangerous but this seemed incredibly excessive, however it is good to know that help is available if we do get in to trouble . Weather is so great I just had to get in ,a good day none the less !!!

Hi All,

Ventured in today on the kind invitation of North1. Dave and I hit the water around 10am and set out into the cold and murky unknown. Swam alot and found the vis to be less terrible than predicted. Looked at various spots and came together later to find Dave had bagged a nice wrasse for his famous soups and i'd reverted back to my Step toe nick name with a large mooring bouy found in the cliff ledges.

9 degrees the water bbbbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr brain freeze

I did not find the cold water to be a problem today, and i do not have a lot of "natural insulation" either , also i am not particularly young and hardy !!! I have a similar marker buoy that i found last year whilst kayaking ,there is an awful lot of litter on the coast but not a lot is useful !

I was in just round the corner, bagged a nice flounder in the estuary, there were a few around but no silver fish seen. BBQ on tonight!

Agree the water wasn't too bad, but i really felt it when i went for a late surf in a 5/3 suit after a morning in the water. Brrrr.

Caught 5 mackerel today (rod & line) ,earliest in the year I have done that ,and first fishy meal of the year so far ,,yum yum ....

Good stuff! I took my little boat out a couple of weeks ago and reeled in 15 mackerel and 3 herring. Early March! Brilliant. Going to try again at the weekend...

Myself and Tong went out for a night dive last night. We got in at 9pm and stayed in til 10:15. The water was suprisingly warm. The vis was about 6m over the rocks, and a bit more over the sand. There was quite a lot of fish life about, including some sizable garfish. I stabbed two big flounders and Tong shot a bass from a shoal that surrounded him as soon as he got in. Quite a nice night really.
