I was going to get in around about now but changed my mind. Shiny is there any viz now b b boy?

went in on Sunday with Yellowdevil.cz between Salcombe and Starehole bay, Vis from 2-4 metres, bit of swell roling about, more swell on the open sea.
There vas good 5m+ vis from top of the cliff seen near The Port Light Hotel, but unable to climb down as too steep
The bay in Hope was quite dirty with bad vis.
Had good catch of 4 sea bass, 3 mullet and one pollock.
All caught shallow up to 5-6 metres in or aroun kelp.

My mate and i were thinking of heading over to salcombe to try our luck this Sunday, any tips or things to watch out for? I've heard something about a bass nursery but cant seem to find anything about spearfishing in the area?

Got in today after a morning fishing. I had the gear in the boat in the hope i may find some vis. Lots of mullet seen but all very jumpy. A lot of the kelps dying off which makes it all look so wintry. That or the storms have ripped it out. The first bass i had was lying up in the kelp with 3 other bass. A good shot down through the top of the head and he was on the stringer. Further on at the end of the reef on a drop off where i get black bream in the summer was 2 big pollack. The bigger of the 2 was the furtherest away but in range for my 100 gun. I gambled shooting 2 with one shot but when they were both inline it was a bit of a long shot to get both so i settled for the smaller of the 2 which was still around the 10lb size(will weigh later). The way he fought when shot was enough so good i didnt spear 2 in one go. I picked up another bass that came in to me in a shoal of about 6. At the other end of the reef i had another nice pollack that came right up to me to my left before i notice him. A long shot to the head stoned him and another was added to the stringer on the float. It felt like i was towing around a wet sack and on a close look at my 35ltr float found it was punctured so it was time to call it a day.

Good hunting Shiny. I got in today near plymouth. The vis was pretty good but didn't see any bass, big shoals of big mullet though. I don't like them so left them for someone else.
I have a bit of a head cold and any diving was really causing me some pain, so I was restricted to the surface for most of the dive. Came home with nothing but enjoyed the swim around. When I got out I was bleeding pretty badly from the sinuses, not good. I don't think I will be diving again until it clears up.
Met a guy in the car park - Graham I think, he had come down from maidenhead if you read this let us know how you went on.

I have a bit of a head cold and any diving was really causing me some pain, so I was restricted to the surface for most of the dive. Came home with nothing but enjoyed the swim around. When I got out I was bleeding pretty badly from the sinuses, not good. I don't think I will be diving again until it clears up.

Braved the Arctic conditions today and went for a dive. Plaice was the chosen prey today. I didnt think there would be any Triggers still about. It was bitter cold in the boat,i picked a sheltered spot from the northerly wind but it seemed to be blowing westerly which made it rather hard going. Vis was poor,not being able to see the reef from the surface isnt good at this spot because you can easy move off it or dive the same bit twice. The wind was that hard it was dragging the drop wieght along the bottom so i couldnt pin point the last spot i dived.
Lots of dives later with the sea getting rougher all the time i called it a day with 5 triggers and a nice plaice.
By the way guys i didnt catch the fish where the pic was taken!!

See strong gusts until Monday pm then hopefully few days of calm before next lot arrives. Trying desperately to get in & find fish, this year has been so frustrating!!!

I didn't actually measure the shell but I would guess a little over 20cm. My kitchen floor tiles in the picture are 30cm.
Managed to get in at Slapton after late shift entered the water just before midnight, big swell and poor viz made it tough going. Bumped into 2 decent mullet with my 75 gun, realising next season I'll get a shorter one as unable to get a shot off. After 30 minutes or so torch lit up a mullet bang fish on, unable to dispatch in the water due to the swell, so caught a wave up onto the beach and as I'm putting it on the stringer it makes a last ditch escape, find myself doing a Peter Shilton diving down the shingle. Nice mullet didn't weigh him but 5lb mark.
Time to retreat for some kip, woke 7am to the roar of the sea and got in at Blackpool sands but struggled with the swell & strong SW hitting the beach. Moved onto Salcombe but more of a Southerly coming up the estuary, swam out to a new mark but crazy waves & dangerous conditions saw me head back in. Sat and watched two boats being tossed around as they disappeared behind the relentless waves, they didn’t stay out long so time for me to call it a day. Frustrated that I didn't get a decent dive in but sometimes conditions are just too dangerous.
Water-cooling off quickly now and apart from the mullet and a few small Pollock nothing else seen.
Time to retreat for some kip, woke 7am to the roar of the sea and got in at Blackpool sands but struggled with the swell & strong SW hitting the beach. Moved onto Salcombe but more of a Southerly coming up the estuary, swam out to a new mark but crazy waves & dangerous conditions saw me head back in.
