Hello guys! Thinking of maybe spearing out of stackpole on friday, just wondering if anyone dived it recently with the gorgeous weather over the weekend!
Cheers!
Richard

Hi Richard
I was there a few weeks ago. Had a great day. The water was a bit cloudy in places I think that the Viz is not good at the moment in general.
I went down to Dorset last weekend. Having travelled all the way down there I suddenly got very sick after eating some fish earlier in the day. I made the mistake of freezing a Pollack that I caught whilst at Stackplole and then defrosting it and then trying to smoke it.

Let me know how you get on?

Jon

Thanks for the vis update jon, when you was there last did you find the water full of small jellyfish by any chance? Im hoping it was just a one off when i was there lol, nightmare trying to fin and avoid getting stung on the face.
Bad news about Dorset dude, hopefully not an entirely wasted trip
If you were there all weekend though?
Looks like im working for the rest of the week but hoping to get down next sunday with a bit of luck and good weather. Ill drop you a pm and let you know how i get on,
All the best
Richard

Hey Folks,
Thought id throw this out there for you.

Went to West Dale yesterday and the viz was perfect.

Got my first fish by Spear (a messy homemade Hawiian Sling contraption) a 3 -4 lb Wrasse. Saw loads of Mullet and a few Bass but they were too quick for me.

And just to comment on Walley8898's mention of Jellies, There were quite a few about but i managed to come away without any stings. But planty of cuts to knees as following a Wrasse into the rocks in good sweels wasn't a good idea in a shortie suit LOL.

i have made a pole spear, there relatively inexpenisve to make. basically the way they work is the diver puts the latex tubing in the V between his forefinger and thumb, then slide his arm up the spear, stretching the tubing. when the diver cna go no further he grips the spear, stopping the tubing from strecthing back. when he sees a fish it's a relatively simple point and let go of the spear, the tubing propelling it forward.businness.

Hi

I have just bought myself a nice mask and beginner spear gun and am going to be testing it out over the next few days at stack pole key. Was wondering if anyone had any tips on what times and areas to start at close to the key and any tips in general on spear fishing.

Thanks

Stackpole Quay...... you'll be driving round for ages looking for the key. That's somewhere else altogether.

Local condition report - murk! seems to be a bloom at the moment so although its been calm the vis aint all that good! ..... cry cry!

common misconception. a hawaiian sling is an underwater slingshot. the projectile (in the case of the hawaiian sling, a normal speargun spear) leaves the rubbers with the hawaiian sling. a pole spear has the rubbers attached to it.

Yep,

porthclais today, vis about 4-5M, bit murky in the first metre or so but much better when i dived down. Been in a few spots round pembs recently, bass are about, but they're not having too much difficulty outsmarting me.
