Awful. Massive swell on both coasts. North coast worse than south infact, strange that. Pure gravy....

Cracking long period groundswell today, gun in cupboard, board in car. noodle arms and legs now though.

Was down on Tenby beach with a friend on Friday and saw a spearo heading out around the rocks and wondered if it was any of the guys on here ?

did he have a cam wet suit and looked fat, if he did that was me, water was really murky and heavey swell, not a good day at all

i wonder if we can spear some codling around here, there was plenty of 3lb plus around last year coming of the boats

Well it was a guy in a camo suit with a float and 2 guns with him, from my lying down position I couldnt possibly comment on his size !

The water did look murky shallow and deep when I went for a quick swim later

In today....and out within 1 hour. Viz worse than awful. Ben, forget it.

Re: spear fishing this winter

has anyone gone out spearfishing in the winter months around pembrokeshire

Just back from working abroad. cant wait to get in. walked a few spots along the path yesterday but conditions not suitable. just waiting for a weather window

been in a few times this winter, definately alot milder in the sea than last year and warmer getting changed afterwards. Has been some good visibility on some days, mostly very murky though. Haven't seen any decent fish but got a big edible crab near dinas and saw a few spiny squat lobsters. Biggest tide of the year on saturday, I'll try and get out on the low tide see if i can find something good

Anyone here generous enough to share possible free diving for scallop spots, i can free dive to 20m. Have caught one scallop so far and would definately appreciate catching a few more.

100% agreed.

One thing I would add though is the reception from the public I get when I exit the water bearing fish or crabs - nothing but facination and genuine friendly interest.

I'm not joking, last time I came out of the water with a big spider + bass, I was literally surrounded by 15 children wanting to see and touch what I'd caught - the children were closely follow by about 10 fathers who all wanted to see too! I ended up heading back out to grab a couple more spiders which I cooked up on the beach with a group of about 12 people I'd never met before. I provided crab, they provided beer and burgers - win-win!

I've yet to meet a single person (apart from a couple of bubblers, who don't count ;) ) who hasn't been really interested in what I'm up to.

i can honestly say i have come off a very busy holiday beach on numerous occasions and all i',ve had is a geniue load of questions off the adults and kids looking at my catch

Went for a quick early morning dip yesterday, just to get back into it. St Brides bay, vis was underpants, 1M at best, and in that 1M didnt see any sealife at all. Didnt feel too cold though, think il try somewhere in south pembs next week.

Hi all.

Fingers crossed I should be going in around the north end of St Brides bay this weekend. I don't know weather I going to swim and tow my raft or spearfish off my kayak. I'll report back
does anyone wanna come?????

regards,

yeah your most properly right. It will be a symbolic gesture, a spiritual offering to the sea god Boris in the hope that he bestows us all with the gift of Bass this summer.
I find the north end of the bay is usually quite clean cos the tides don't move as fast and the sea bed is a coarser sand. I don't expect to catch any thing but I need to get dive fit and you've gotta be in water to see da fish!!!!
do ya wanna come??
