spear fishing in pembrokeshire

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
It does seem storage. I fully agree with size limits and shooting lobster, crab etc.
My argument would be that we can choose the size and have 0% bycatch!
Would be great if we could get a licence To shoot and sell as at £5.60 per kg for medium bass it would be an even better hobby! ;-)

Well that is a matter of opinion as most of us are very much into conservation & only take what we require for our own personal consumption.
I can sell bass legally but I dont kill them to sell & I dont know of any Guernsey spearos who do...there are plenty of netters who do that already!

Heading up to st brides bay area this weekend for a bit of spearing, what's the vis looking like to the north side? Last time i was there in early june the vis was great but no bass in numbers :(

first chance today lets see what's about plenty of bass being caught on rod & line around pembrokeshire

heading out this afternoon around st davids, vis looks fantastic from the shore and none of the red seaweed which was discolouring the water close to shore (where the bass come in!) as there was last time.

we don't want to go down this road the lobster & crab fishermen will be up in arms

well went out spearing once and saw....zilch! worked my way out into the bay seeing only small pollock and wrasse, and not in the numbers i was seeing them in a month ago. went out rod and line fishing 4 or 5 times including 2 journeys past the island in the yak which almost always produces mackerel. total number of fish caught: two small pollock off the rocks. a local guy who goes out fishing on his kayak almost every day said he had not seen any mackerel for three weeks which is not a good sign...perhaps the bass have dissappeared with the mackys? i did only see one small school of sandeels whilst i was there which is odd as usually the water is thick with them.

yes i had 3 x bass & 1 x mullet, missed loads of shots as the water was a bit murky and the fish were flying past.

Yep, fish on all coasts. Viz almost 10m in places with good size fish in most spots. wind looks shocking for the rest of the week though.....

Hola Gents

I have just taken a job with Svitzer and one of the places im working is Pembroke, bringing in the LNG tankers for Dragon, so nice to see the spearos are getting stuck in here too.

Just talking with Podge this morning and we were talking about the worst year ever for spearo.. is this it then?

anyway best regards from the bridge of a few spearo friendly escort tugs.

B :)

Hey Bryn,
Yep, worst year ever for me! Shocking weather but the fish are deffo there.
Will you get much of a chance to get in the water for a dive??
Let me know and I can show a few good spots.

Dave

Sounds grand Dave

Im on a two week on/off rotation but a day either side for some spearo is always pretty easy to arrange.

I will hopefully sees you around then. :)

May be down in pembroke working for a couple of weeks like to try and get some eve dives in if conditions allow .conferm when i know .many thanks ,

Just thought I would see how people are getting on down in Pembrokshire? This weather has been most welcome!!

Got in a few times over the last week, good dive on Tuesday eve resulted in some nice pollack but not many bigger bass seen.
Best pollack went 11 pound 1oz. Some bigger fish spotted also....

Hope you all manage to get out soon, I know I will be making the most of it!!

Dave
