spear fishing in pembrokeshire

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
The Jet stream is meant to be moving northwards in the next week, so in theory it means high pressures can move in and stay. Cant imagine it will clear up from all the bad weather quickly though !

It won't. We've the issue of rain water wash off, swell and fine sand for starters.
It will need a week or so to calm, and then we'll have an algae bloom !.
Pembs is without doubt the most rewarding and infuriating place to spearfish on the planet.

First time on the forum but I've been spearing for about 5 years.
Been out everyday this week at least twice and have a freezer stocked with bass and place for the next murky spell. Going out later this evening for the low tide so fingers crossed!!!
Will be keen to meet up with others as the person I usually spear with works a lot.

Not seen a plaice in Pembs yet and have been diving the coast for 9 years... Loads of flounder about in a few spots. Got in on Sat, viz slowly getting better. Claws and silvers about in the murk!

exactly Dave, so many people think orange spots = plaice!

Actually i did have a plaice last year about 2lb and i think ive had one maybe five years ago but the rest are always flounders.

Yeah i expected better vis on the weekend too but managed to get in.
Found my first golden grey mullet too and was really happy with that !

Nice eating the GG, slimy buggers though!! Had a few the last few years off a certain beach ;-) missed one a week before last in fact, In the most unlikely of spots, deffo GG.

yeah i agree lovely eating- much better than a standard gret mullet which can be nice but often a little bland. I'll deffo take one again- very nice looking fish too- dark stripes and mine had a very golden thumb print- far more torpedo like and generally more delicate that a thick lip

First time I have heard grey mullet described as bland! Stinky horrible strong tasting things :yack LOL

Not the open water ones we get in pembs, - ive had a muddy tasting estuary fish before but the open water fish id simply describe as bland.
Golden greys eat shrimp/prawns and worms compaired to Grey mullet eating algae so maybe that accounts for the difference in taste.

Our neighbour sells some our bass for their stall and they named it place. As their fishmongers I trusted their knowledge. We usually take in other flatties which they sometimes have off us if there big enough

Are you serious???? Got to be a wind up....
