nah, i live in cardiff where i did a snorkelling and scuba course at the pool. do you know which side of the bay is best as i have always gone down the left side but never beeen brave enough to go past the headland.

Try Bristol Channel Diving Aaron. They have quite abit of spearfishing gear that you can have a good nosey at and see what fits. I have a 75cm mares phantom that I bought from there which is a really solid gun.

Re: weather

hi all
the weather has been bad lately, seen some very nice 3lb plus bass, but could;nt stay down long enough to get a decent shot off. trying my best to improve my breathing though

Has anyone else managed to get out lately?

Took the day off work and headed west with my mate with the kayaks early in order to beat the the holiday/granny/caravan traffic that usually builds up this time of year. Was fully loaded and covered the 1-1.5 miles to the spot and the current was in full flow with a fairly sizeable swell. However, even after the weeks monsoons the viz was fairly decent as I ducked my head under first drop to see a school of bass. It made me go abit giddy as I have worked solidly the last two weeks meaning it was such a relief to finally get wet. First dive landed a nice 3lb fish which got gilled and and strung behind the kayak straight away. Had two more dives before jumping back in the yak in order to head back up stream and repeat the process.

Second drop, a school came in after ~1min 10/15secs and started circling. I picked out the larger fish that was being flanked and shadowed by the smaller fish and sent the steel straight through it... Not only had the large fish been hit but a smaller fish behind it also got pinned! Needless to say they both went bezerk even with a good solid gill shot on the large fish. Luckily for me, the large fish headed to the kelp and got my multi tangle in the kelp whilst the smaller fish was fllaping around on the spear with a belly shot.

Again, thankgod for the reel! I was able to let my line out and return to the surface whilst finning against the current. It was a nightmare to rcover both fish as neither were dead and the I could not pull my spear out as it was so tangled. After a dive to kill each fish, I returned to the boat with 2 more fish and a butchered kelp frond for my troubles! Very happy though getting a double bass spear-up! :D

I only managed 9 dives in total as I had my quota of bass so headed around the headland as the current/sweel had really picked up to see my mate chumming the water, being sick but with a nice haul of mackeral to show for his troubles rofl

We headed back to a sheltered spot after abit of handlining in order for my friend to try abit of snorkling. It was typical, I had been telling my mate that I had wanted to shoot a mackeral but had never seen one in the water on the way over to Pembs and on my first drop in this spot 4 mackeral swam past - gutted.

Oh well, another great day.

Got in yesterday for a few hours , viz was between 6 m- 3m which was better than expected given the wind for the last few days.

There was plenty of fish about but it was one of those days when the fish spot you first and start moving away. This resulted in a lot of missed shots including a massive mullet that was into double figures it was like a big grey barrel.

It wasn't a total loss as there was plenty to look at and ended the day with these two beauties .:)

Got in this morning, i went to fresh west beach to test run some new kit. My new speargun works a treat, just a shame i didnt see any fish, my new mask seems fine, no leaks or fogging, the vis wasnt very good near the shore as the waves were churning up sand. As i went a bit deeper it seemed to improve to 3 to 4 meters, couldnt go too far as my kids were on there own.
If anyone on here fancys a bit of company spearing give me a bell so to speak
Later dudes

sorry i couldent get out with you whilst i was staying there but my dad is not to keen (he gets cold, even with a 5mm suit, and has headaches if he stays out for more than an hour) and he woldnt let me go out without him. did you try up at st.nons? it looked excellent vis there from the cliffs and i saw a gannet diving in! hopefully we can meet up next year. i got a nice 3lb pollock on the last day of my trip at whitesands, on a float that is. the currents loo a little vicous around the rocks but does anyone know if there is good spearing round there? i saw some seabirds diving in on a school of fish so there must be some big predators drving them up but alas i couldnt get down to them as the rocks were too steep and i didnt want to risk spidermaning it. wether on rod or spear, a fish is never worth your life.
