Speargun Help!!

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Slightly reduced horizontal drag too perhaps? I'll be interested to hear how you get on. It sounds like an interesting speargun for the UK.

Hi guysss
Here I'am!...... Almost 50 yearzz but i can't give it up!
I just get back diving, after 4 year out of it....
I'm Italian and i'll write a bunch of mistaken.........sorry
I'm here to find some tips before to buy new equipment.............
I've been reading for days in Z net before to iscribe my self in a forum, Depper blue it's my first one....
I dive now at 80ft and spent 45 to 60 second at botom.... ( i have a good back ground.... until 5:6 year ago i was spent the same time but at 120ft) I need to buy 2 guns.... My are to old and find the band it is very difficoult.... The guns i'm looking for......... My target are from a minimum of 8/10pd goin up to 90/120pd for snapper, cubera, grouper, jaks, makarel .....
I dive also in the ocean and the target are, dorado, wahoo, big hamber jak, (never meet tuna but some marlin several time.... )
So i would like to buy one gun not too long(100/115 cm) but with a good range around 22/23/24 feet, for hunting dropping smuthly to the botom and surprise them. The other one i would like to use it for big fish in open water............ We go out 3/4 days a week when the dorado time is on 30/40 ml out in Z ocean and when we find some thing floatting( woods, barrel, palletz.....) we find the real fish!!! Under the floatting object usualy there is a hunter paradise.......
I will organize my self to be able to have a cam to take some pic to ad to the huge DeeperBlue gallery...
read U all leater
Blesssss

i think th xxv has the best muzzle, thats why im waiting for the HF2

Marwan

Watch out here , I am in Brazil using my new HF the nice little bridge is sitting somewhere in the Atlantic ocean, after killing a nice fish I notice the bridge was gone, on a closer inspection I notice that the bridge actually had crack the muzzle. Also the little wire that tries to hold the line was gone after the first big fish. I am trying to use the gun without the bridge and the little wire and it is very hard not to get the rigging tangled on the muzzle when I double wrap the shooting line . I plan to write a special thread about my findings on the HF. There is a lot of hipe about this gun, it does shot great however, the bare aluminum barrel is loud and the muzzle with the bridge is really frail. Besides that the gun has great range with a single band (easly pulls two wraps) and it is very accurate.

Ah my good friend, its been a while, hope all is well, actually i was planning to use it without the bridge, i.e. open muzzle but with in line bands parallel to the barell rather than circular bands, i am excited about this setup... i have a cayman 90 aluminum with closed muzzle, i like the handle/trigger etc... but really interested to know your feedback on the HF, so post soon, my birthday is approaching
hey as for the rekord 3 fins, i tried them, they are good and powerful for depth, but feel a bit heavy when used for long time at the surface swimming against current, sort of how i felt with the c4 falcon 25, the hybrid mediums are still number 1 for me in my opinion...

Marwan

I've also tried the C4 30, they are as good as Medium hybrid on vertical dives, but not was good for surface swiming, I felt the c430 was bending too much close to my toes, The medium hybrid are the best package so far.
I have another hart breaking here, on the trip down to Brazil, the darn airline broke the tip of one of my hybrid (still useble) and on the last dive, the omer foot pocket gave up and broke as well just after two seazons. I am going to check but I don't think there is any waranty on the foot pocket. I am going on another dive trip today for 4 days .

Damn!, it seems like some of your omer gear is goin to s**t. Sorry to hear about that! Cant wait for your thread on the hF gun and see some of the damage that was done while you fished if possible! How big was the fish you shot that damaged your gun?

Next time get a Gabbiano! :t

hmm. im not sure mine could do that... ive never tried two wraps though. our guns should be the same right? 18 mm band? how long is your band? you have the 100 too right? how long should the band be? and how do you measure a circular band accurately?

Kenny,

So i really gave my Omer HF 110 the run through in my 3.5 weeks in Oahu and Kauaii. I hunted every day some days i was out for more than 4 hours at a time. I killed a lot of fish with it. The things i did that really helped the gun out.

1. Replace that hard wishbone with some good soft dynamea. The wishbone can be dangerous, it once wasnt locked and snapped on my finger. Thank god for 5 mm kevlar glove...(but smooth out your sharkfins with a file before doing this. Your art' wishbone has probably nicked up your sharkfins, otherwise it will cut your dynamea in 5 shots)~5$

2. Even though you have a reel, have a diveshop put a bungee between your mono and your reel line. It makes reloading in the reef easy, and most of the time you can keep your reel locked.~5$

3. I also replaced the single 18mm band with 2x16 mm bands. That way if i see a fish in front of a rock or in a hole i can let go of one band and shoot it 'softly'. Plus reloading is soooo easy now. IF you do this ignore #1

4. Open the muzzle. The way it rigs open is tight and your spear holds in place even better than closed. 0$

How to rig the HF for open muzzle..
a. Run line up left side of the spear drop down and under the catch on the left tip of the gun like you have in your picture.
b. Run line up over spear and around the catch on the right side. Like you have it.
c. Run line back to the trigger release. (heres where you have stopped in your picture)
d. Run line back to the muzzle and across the long narrow groove in the end of the gun (You can see it in your second photo)
e. Then run the line back to the trigger release again. This will give you another 6 feet.

It seems from your picture you are only allowing one loop of mono. That means your spear will come to a slamming stop once the tip gets 11-12 feet out of the gun. Although this seems about like your max range anyways, i would reccomend doing another loop for two reasons. First with the little fish you are shooting you could go clean through 2 of them at 13 feet. Second reason is the second loop holds the first loop over the end in place so it cant move as much. I found i could put my spear clear through a reef fish so its "Stringered" at 18'

thank you!!:thankyou

ill consider the double 16s, but i dont think its needed for what im currently shooting.ill definetly try wrapping the line like that.
how long should the band be (the 18mm one i have)? and how are the bands measured?

oh, and i can just take the second wrap right from the reel right?

The 18 mm rubber you have is really good for your gun so you shouldnt change it out, unless you are going for 2x 16 mm ones. If you are going to 16 mm bands you will probably need to take your gun to the shop because your shortest band hole is closed, so they will need to teach you how to tie a removable knot, or just put the band in the gun permanently. A gun shop can do it for you. I forget if you have a gun shop near you?

EDIT IN: Our bands are measured in mm diameter, then inches of band. So 18 mm x 19 inches. But i live in USA, and im not sure of other places. I will refer to someone else for that information, as well as what length bands you should get. I simply had a dive shop measure and put in my bands. It cost me about 20$.

Yes i believe you can just take it out of the reel. I tend to make my mono long enough so i dont have to do that. But as long as the swivel doesn't happen to be at the end where you loop it over you should be good. Didn't your gun come with an extra spool of mono?
