Speargun Help!!

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
kenny, if possible go back to the shop and ask the seller questions with the gun in hand. he should be happy to help you and fix problems. mosts sellers of spearo gear are spearos themselves and like to help.

congrats on your fist fish, hope you enjoyed eating them!

me and my gun?? why?????

next time i make a halfway respectable catch ill post a picture (be very patient:))

oh, and i checked the mono on my spearshaft. the mono loop is just short enough NOT to pass over the end of the spear. is that it?? could that cause those problems alone??
also, the mono seems very stiff, and the crimp+mono seem awkward and 'unsmooth' to pull through the tight closed muzzle of my gun. its the mono that came with the gun.
so i guess now i should get a new mono, make the loop bigger when i i rig it, but the mono will still be as stiff, and the crimp will be the same passing through the muzzle. so do i have to switch to open muzzle?? and is it normal for the mono and crimp to stick a bit when i pull it through the muzzle (it doesnt affect the shot at all, i only notice it when i pull it through by hand)...

kenny, dear old buddy:

take the gun and spear to the shop and ask kind owner to help out. If possible.

- the loop that fixes the nylon to the end (the far end) of the spear should be quite long so as not to complicate it clicking in to place, lets say, 8Cm long?
- the nylon will feel a bit dumb and twisty pulling the spear out by hand from the gun, but believe me, it will have no problem straightening out once fired by those thick-o bands
- don't switch to an open muzzle (yet) try the closed first that comes (for some reason) with the gun, they are good.
- there are some threads here like "beginners guide to rigging a spear gun", with 20 or so posts alone on making "the perfect crimp" so be patient and learn.

go on, give foxy some respect and post some pictures of you and your catches, it's all part of the fun, it's not just "take take" you know ;)

ok thanks...

and im really sorry,
that wasnt meant at all to be disrespectful:mute:mute:mute:mute!!!
i WILL post some pictures, but standing infront of a mirror with gun in hand is a bit lame, so ill take some next time i go spearfishing.

btw the owner was the one who rigged my gun for me in the first place... but ill go back as sson as i can, since i have neither mono nor crimps nor crimpers.

kenny...
the short loop could be the problem, my buddy keeps breaking mono line this way...take it to the shop and try a longer crimp loop...
post pics of you and the gun indeed...after 100 posts, we need to see the result buddy :) :)
cheers
take care

just so i can sleep tonight: sorry foxfish, no offense:):)
ill post some pics as soon as i get to go spearing again (latest by this weekend)

You dont have to do anything mate I just wanted to know what you looked like because you are such a character. :)

:):)
now before i go to bed, do you all prefer to put the mono through the hole in the shaft thats all the way at the end, or the other one? :hmm
gd night

An RA, 100 cm fits your needs, powerful, accurate & reliable

:fridayfinally!! i managed to make a working account here!:friday

hi
ive been reading EVERYTHING on this forum for a while now, but somehow couldnt get my account to activate.
im am spearfishing in lebanon, and have a beuchat arka 75.
i want to get a new gun, but not sure which one. i hunt in all kinds of conditions, usually good visibility, all kinds of 'terrain' +bluewater but fish not very big (by your standards). a big fish to me is 3 kg, grouper, bream, garpike, snapper, jacks, all kinds of fish... also bonito, kingfish and dorado etc passing through seasonally.
i want something to take some larger fish ( rarely larger than 15kg) but also the usual from further range. a good allround gun for my conditions. So: a good all round gun for long range on smaller fish, but enough for the occasional 15 kg giant:) in clear water
i was thinking a 100/110 but not sure... american style guns dont exist here.
what size gun do you think i need????
thanks !!

not a bad question Kenneth.

end, I say, and 99% of spearos agree. I would like to see other opinions though...

Yes, get the RA rofl

I'm a hole at the end guy and keeping the loop as short as possible so that the crimp is well clear of the last notch

ihab: a bit late, but thanks anyways:)

about the mono, ill go change it asap, and come back with pics and report as soon as i can go try it.

instead of opening a new thread:):
the flopper on my spear seems really loose, it opens and closes whenever it wants, and if i open it all the way, the hold the spear upright, it just folds back down. should it be like this?

No, it should be loose up to about 45 degrees and then tighten up on the shaft. Tighten the top of the flopper just above the pin with a pair of pliers, if you make it too tight loosen it off with a flat screwdriver

i went out yesterday, the visibility sucked and i didnt get anything. but i noticed that again, the mono is pretty damaged already after about 3 shots. its in the hole at the end...what can i do??:head
today was the last day of school for me, so now lots of time to go spearing, and hopefully some pics soon:friday

also, not that i need it, but could i get a second 18mm band to put on my gun just incase a whale swims by just out of range? i could have what i have now, just with the option of band number 2. this is probably pretty (extremely) stupid in my conditions, i just saw it on the omer website and was wondering...double wrap+2 18mm...? maybe if one day i move to somewhere with some decent fish.........

TKK...
maybe the hole where the mono is looped through is a bit rough and needs to be smoothened by a file..although i find this a bit unlikely for a new spear...
as for the 2x18mm bands, my first impression is that this much power might affect the accuracy of the gun, i dont think it packs enough mass/volume to deal with the recoil of 2x18mm bands,,,with excessive recoil you loose accuracy..

how exactly do you file a hole in the spear? what kind of file do you need to fit into that tiny hole? and it doesnt seem rough at all, is there anything else that could be causing that??

Kenny

I agree with Marwan (I have the same gun Cayman HF) , I think two 18's is a lot of band for the light gun, you could use on RA 20mm , the RA bands are really good, about filing the hole, you can use a dremel toll, I did not notice that problem on my gun. About damaging mono, is the shot getting to the end of the first wrap and banging on the line. Are you leving your reel lock so no line comes out of it (that is not good don't lock the reel).
