Speargun Help!!

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
gosh kenny, so many questions and somebody will be killing you for sure (its a joke dude!)

grab ANY gun, and jump in the water this weekend with some buddies, see what they use, see what the locals use, the commercial guys too, ask to borrow, and you'll be a wiser man on Sunday night!

have fun

Strewth Kenny!
Why dont you tell us a but about yourself as there is not much info on your profile?

kenny, if you just have access to those 4 guns you mentioned and IF you must choose between one of them, there's only one thing to do for choosing:
use the force!
Go to the shop and grab the 4 guns in your hands. One of them, only one, will make you feel a magic sensation of strength, a mysterious feeling of power and grace. That's the one that will be YOUR GUN, the mighty weapon that was created for you and you only.
Use the force!

You know it's right... :)

In the immortal words of Starsky and Hutch: "Just DO IT!!" :)
and good luck with it too.

Seriously, if you are looking for power and a sensible gun then listen to the Fox.

pastor: ok ok im sorry. just that the only excalibur 3000 they have is 110 so....

azapa: i would do that, but i do not know anyone who spearfishes, except maybe some people on scuba. the locals do not spearfish, they fish with poles from the rocks, and i have nowhere to borrow a gun from. so i have to buy, then i can try. and since im always short on money, im planning to make any gun i buy now last me at least a few years. ive thought of some new shops that might have other guns, so ill check them out tomorow.
i probably know more about spearguns just from what ive read on this forum than most people who ive talked to in shops. i have yet to meet someone who knows what a floatline is, or can tell me anything about putting 2 bands on a gun...

spaghetti: rofl

foxfish: im 16, german, living in lebanon for the past 10 years. im in my last year of school, and have no idea what i want to do later on. ive only been spearfishing for about 3 months, but i have ALWAYS been snorkeling, scubadiving, surfing, fishing, and anything to do with the sea.
other than that, i work out alot, and snowboard. the first time i ever went 'spearfishing' was with some locals in madagaskar off their little wooden carved out tree truck, with a long wooden stick. i didnt catch anything, but it was fun as.....eeeeeeeehh..... anyways, its become sort of an obsession now:)
..............did i miss anything?

cant wait to get my new gun, ill come right here to report when i do:friday

Marwan - you almost killed Kenny (you bastard).
YKK - Your new Cayman 100 clearly has special powers - congratulations on summoning it!

FYI- South Park is one of the few remaining embodiments of the true american conscience. It should be regarded as a national treasure.

why did you get the CAYMAN!!!, its the worst gun made by omer its faulty and thats why theyre issuing a new model in february....

Marwan: thats BAD roflroflroflrofl

Kenny: congratulations, great choice, enjoy the gun and be safe!

i went today, the gun is amazing (i only got 2 breams though, the water was very agitated and murky)
just 2 things:

even after just this first day of spearfishing, the mono is damaged alot, in the loop where it is crimped to the shaft. what can i do to stop this??

the shaft has 3 sharkfin notches. according to the guy in the shop, the first one is just to rest while loading, the second one is to shoot, and the third one is just there incase a second, longer band is added. true?? or can i shoot from the 3rd notch too?

file the edges of the holes, it may cut mono after few divings and this may happen at the worst time. Like while you shoot your dream fish

For the shaft, its only limited with your imagination. Depends your bands length. But officially first shark fin is for resting the bands while not expecting to encounter with fish. Second for shooting and third one is for more powerfull shooting or for second band as mentioned.

kenny..its not normal that the mono wears out (serious, im not joking this time :) ), unless youre doing something wrong, such as, not rigging the gun, i.e. not wrapping the mono snuggly before you shoot, this causes the mono to be sometimes trapped in the muzzle with the spear upon exit and wears it out..
if thats not the case, then make sure that when the spear leaves the trigger mech, the loop of the mono goes all the way around the end of the spear, if thats not happening then the mono loop is too short and the same problem will occur...
another reason maybe the shaft hole where the mono goes through, is rough and cuts through the mono, the solution is maybe filing the shaft...i have no experience with the new omer america spears...
as for the notches, you could use the third one to load for more power, but bear in mind, its wayy more power...ive rarely had to use it...even when i caught a 20KG fish i was still at the first notch...
