Spearing north wales

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Ive an ra caranx 80 with 16mm and an ra sparid 1000 with a 20mm for those good days - both ally and very happy with both. If I were tempted for another, I would do the same as you bro and go for a shorty for low viz and rocks etc. clive reckons its not really worth just doing a 10cm change as it feels very similar. He recommends 20.
Interestingly, no rustprobs at all, but I am pretty religious about rinsing and drying etc. know its a matter of time, but all good so far.

I agree about the 10 increment - there's not much in 10 cm!

Are you saying that if you purchased your guns again you'd go for 70 and a 90 instead of a 80 and a 100?

I was fishing around very shallow string weed last week in great viz but the length of the 90 meant that when fishies appeared from behind the weed, it was quite tough to get the cannon on them before they realised that I wasn't a novelty rock and in fact a furious, albeit very slow moving, fish hunting beast rofl

thinking about it, yes I probably would. as RA dont do a 60 Im pretty much stuck with this combo. TBH the 80 works well enough, but had similar probs in south anglesea last week, big fish pointing and laughing.....

There's always the option of buying a 70 and getting the barrel professionally cut down by a metal worker to make a 60. No-one would charge you more than £10 to cut 10cm off a barrel, it's a 60 second job if you've got the right tools. Buy a shorter spear, trim the bands down and you're good to go!

I'm sure CV would sell you a 70 without a spear for a reduced down price. Winner :)

Maybe a 65.5 or 71.8.....but what about the bands... not sure...can cut it down....yes that's it.....or is it ?.....arrgghhhh.

Please....a 75 and a 90 for when you can see e USA coastline from north wales...that's all you need.

Can tell we are desperate to get in the water cant you? Still have my pole spear which has caught more than either of my guns rofl

Robbo, don't be such a tool.

Everyone knows how much you love your 75cm gun but lets be realistic, you don't fish in North Wales, you don't know other people's needs and exactly what business is it of yours if someone wants a short gun?

Isn't open muzzle standard? Ah - the pictures on their site are terrible!

I was thinking about getting a closed muzzle 70 to double as low viz gun and an easy loading night dive gun - what do you think?

Teeny bit confuzzled by the band / spear options... I was thinking that a 6.6mm spear with 20mm bands might be a good choice for a short gun with a bit of oomph.

Or should I just stick to the standard 6.3mm spear with 16mm bands. Decisions, decisions ;)

If you give them a call you can get a 18mm bands with 6.6mm spear which is what iv got on my 90cm and soon 70cm RA carbon as i find this good for both power and accuracy

Exactly Foxy. Same down here but have been up your way recently and equally dire. Couple of us had great day last week though, bass are still there. Can assure you. Use whatever feels comfortable....even the pole!.

Hey Bros, what's with the aggression and rudeness ?. Come on buddy ....this is an open forum....no need for that surely ?.

Apologies, maybe it's my time of the month but Foxy had just said that he wanted something smaller than his 80, you then go and infer that its stupid to want anything smaller than a 75... Just seemed mildly ridiculous.

If he wants a 60 and RA don't make one, surely cutting down a 70 to get what he wants is a perfectly logical thing to do?

Didn't mean it to come across as rude as maybe it did.

Bros, no, you took it 'that way' and that seemed 'hugely ridiculous '.
Calling someone a 'tool' takes any of the 'maybe' out of it, but no problem.

The viz and undersea landscape will be very similar from north to south Wales, well in my experience it is anyhow. That suits a 75 perfectly but I do use a 90 now and again.
A 60 is good for holes, but no range or power for anything else.

I think we can all become over obsessed with the technical attributes of a hobby, I know I have with my tennis (racquet flex, string tension etc), but in the end it makes little difference.
But we're all big kids, and need excuses to buy new shiny things wherever possible. I know I do.
Appreciate the apology anyhow.

Spears?? I was talking about .... length. Edited to protect the innocent.

Are you sure? Up to 21mph SW on Thursday, 15mph N on Friday, 14mph SSW on Saturday. I'm thinking it's going to get pretty stirred up and won't have enough time to settle before the weekend

Where are you seeing that mate? BBC? XCWeather is showing decentish wind from tomorrow onwards - Friday, Saturday & Sunday look great.

I've got a wedding to go to on Saturday which is a massive bummer but I'll definitely be down on Sunday - might stay for the Monday too if it holds and I get 'permission'.
