"starfins" hyper

Alex, how good they are if I have in mind V-Bend?? I see direction of fiber glass is vertical, shouldn't it be horizontal for less bending? I don't really know, I just guess.

Matt

hi,
No, our blades all thought out and almost no V-bend ! By the way, a small V-bend are almost all the blades - this is normal ! When the big V-bend - bad, prevents proper fin work !
A horizontal or horizontal-vertical processing blade - does not matter! The main thing that all thought it was true!

Hello to everybody ,
I want to introduce you to our web site: http://starfins.com/eng/

May now be many freedivers will be easier and faster to define a fin of your dreams !?!
Thank you for your attention!

With best regards
Alex

link to products from front page doesn't work (404)! Bubbles are black and fishes have such sad and depressed look - CO2 narcosis I think. Hyperfins spelled wrong.

I am not picky, am I?

Everyone knows Ukrainian fish are ambivalent. It is probably working on a novel.

Still down? Silvi gave me the links some days ago, worked fine. BTW the fish is the best.
Tonight i'll test my hyperfin, no socks no fun, hahaahaahha. I think Stefan will attend the training session also. I' ll give you feedback.

Right. I've now had my fin for two and a half weeks and can probably give it some sort of a review.

First, build quality is extremely good. A lot of time has been put into getting things right, especially in the footpocket area. Speaking of, they are very tight but unlike my leaderfin they don't have any pressure points. I'm able to wear the fin for 20 minutes at a time and a few minutes in between is sufficient for recovery. This is a competition fin, so that's what I was hoping for. I asked for it to be comfortable for 15 mins and bearable for 30, so that's pretty much spot on. I asked for 25 degrees angle and slightly buoyant and that's what I got. My body position in the glide is now much better than it was before. I asked for a soft blade and got something a bit stiffer than I wanted, but not unreasonably so.

In the pool, I found that despite the blade being stiffer than expected I was using less energy per length and fewer kicks, despite average pace increasing. That's a pretty good combo. I haven't attempted a PB yet, but on the couple of longer swims I've done the lactic load and hypoxia was lower than with my old fin. I did notice that the lack of side rails or stabilisers on the fin itself means it's more prone to slipping sideways in the water, though only really an issue on the first kick after a turn. I'm fairly confident to say now that it is a superior fin to my now retired one and I'm a happy man. It is definitely designed as a performance/competition fin rather than a 'fun' fin, but that's what I asked for.

So, a list of pros and cons.
Pros:
Very good power transfer
Footpockets have no pressure points
Fin almost exactly what I asked for

Cons:
Blade slightly stiffer than wanted
Lack of side rails reduces fin stability

I may attach some stabilisers to the fin to deal with the last con, but honestly it's not a big issue. Alex was fantastic to work with and the fin was posted (very well packaged) when promised and didn't take long to make. I doubt there's such a thing as a perfect fin, but I have no qualms about recommending Starfins. Thanks Alex!

Great review Chris ! I am also looking around for a new monofin. Can You check exactly how heavy is Your monofin and what would You say about V-bend, does it have any??

cheers,
Matt

I'll check what it weighs when I get a chance. No V-bend visible on video so far. The reinforcement between footpockets is strong and the footpockets are slightly closer together than my old fin, so I don't expect any bend.

possible weight of a Starfin from 3,4 to 3,8 kg on the air. But he has a slightly positive buoyancy and weight on land it does not matter!
however, if only during the flight every time we hear the words - "sorry, you are overweight - Pay" :t

Hi Alex

Weight... it does matter when You consider swimming up from 100m depth:martialevery 100g is important for me.

p.s. have You ever made a fin for someone who is diving to this kind of depths?? I'm looking for some feedback

cheers,
Matt

Previous fin was a Leaderfins Hyper Professional. It's done me fine, but I thought it was time to try something else. There are some vids on youtube of it if you're interested.

Matt: My fin is 3.4kg. Slightly heavier than my more buoyant Leaderfin.
