"starfins" hyper

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Any country name you can give us Alex? Is it to be used for a record attempt?
Is the diver on this forum? - LOL - You know how to tease your readers Alex! :D

Hi All

got my Hyper 2 weeks ago, and only after 2 trainings sessions I broke my own PB - Foot pockets fitts perfectly, I can swim for 30min before I need to take it off.

I can only recommend Alex for his guidance about stiffness and foot pocket angle.

I know the identity of the Unknown Diver. Price of disclosure is seven starfins.
Pool your resources. Muhahaahah....muahahahahahahahahaha....MUAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....etc.

not only one ! Hahahahaha:t

Alex I really would like to see a silver blade colour come out, it would be great in combination with a silver suit.

Personally I would like to have a heaven blue metal blade colour, to match my next blue smoothskin suit.

Maybe there is a way for the blade manufacture company to add colour in the rasin used for the blades?

kars- a while back my brother was messing around with this, all he did was mix in dry fine art pigment with the resin- he made a flourecent pink fin, the blade sucked but it looked cool I would imagine silver pigment would work too

it would be cool to see some creative glass jobs like you see on surfboard

Oh, if only you knew how difficult it is to make the blade! Simply take the sandpaper and a balloon with paint! You can change the graphics from time to time ! :t

I know Alex, I tried and failed horribly for a period of time and wasted plenty of money trying to make a good blade, glassing a surfboard is allot easier, now I just trust craftsman like you too make the fins, I don't have one of your fins yet but they look beautiful hope to order one in the future

Sometimes we use and work with blades , which was made in the early 80s! Simply choose the color of rubber, although it is also very long and complicated and must be ordered from other countries

Indeed monkeyhatfork I spray painted my classic fin silver, two layers, plus two transparent. Sanding, using a primer and paint made for plastic etc. But though the colour looks nice, it is very fragile to wear and tear.

I'm looking forward to the blade manufactures putting out silver, blue blades, matching the different freediving suit colours. I would be willing to pay extra for such a gorgeous looking fin!

After all printplates for computers - same material I believe - have various colors!
Alex can you please ask your suppliers if it can be done?

When I said that the blade difficult to do, I mean that the technology at one time to make ~300 blades and can not do less. The process takes ~3-5 days. BUT, I will ask about this "blue" option ! :)

Awhile back my dive buddy Ken and I ordered a Starfin each from Alex.

Ken, who has less experience with both monofins and Ukrainians than I, provided a lot of instructions - which required me to intervene and erase most of them :)

I, having seen Alex's work and skill, just asked him to do what he thought was right for me, and to pick the color himself.

My exchanges with Alex led me to believe these fins were going to be something special. Given the already very high standard set by the fins he made for my daughter and I - I was pretty excited.

About a week and a half ago the fins arrived.

First off - the build quality is what we've come to expect from Starfins - absolutely impeccable. Starfins are strikingly consistent in terms of quality and sizing. The fins are beautiful. What really sets these apart, however, is the blade angle - between 25 and 28 degrees.

I've now got a few solid hours of pool work in with this fin and it is without question the best performing monofin I have ever used! . It is extremely well-tuned for my body. Alex's blades have a very fluid and easy feeling - they slip through the water in a way that belies their power.

The angle on the blade makes a huge difference!

With this fin I find myself covering distance with substantially less effort than with my other fins.
I am easily able to cover 25m in two undulations with lungs a little more than half empty. Full lungs I do it in three.
Doing 50s I used a soft, relaxed and continuous undulation and the laps were almost effortless.

Glide and power transfer are superb - the best I have experienced.

Summary:

Extremely high and consistent build quality
Awesome power and glide due to the blade angle and the perfectly-tuned blade.
Comfortable foot pockets - precisely as requested :)

Check out the blade angle in the first photo - remember to figure in the angle of the foot inside the pocket.

Note also that Alex has extended the pocket BELOW the fin blade - instead of building a Huge footpocket on top of the fin in order to get the angle.

That is a gorgeous fin! nice to hear that it works as good as it looks, too. Thanks for the review!

Using actual science - we have determined the functional blade angle of this fin is between 28-30 degrees. :)
Verily; it rocks
