Just let me know if you want more details.

Hi Andrew,

Yes, I know Tyler. He is a good friend of mine and has tremendous talent. I'm sure he could be a world record holder. The problem is that he doesn't see the need to compete. I'm still trying to convince him otherwise.

Cheers,

Luc

New Records

Everyday i train on holding my breath. I train twice a day. And im making progress really fast. I started training a while ago and then my record became 3.10. Then i took a break, and i didnt hold my breath for maybe 2 months. Therefore my level went down to around 2 minutes max. But eversince i started training again 3-4 days ago my record got breaked at 2nd day of training. and i broke it everyday. Now its 3.30 and still getting better everyday

hi

Luc yeah kinda like Seb Murat.

Your warm ups are very interesting to me they are very long, Erik told me that I should lengthen mine guess it works.

My question is how do you hold any conractions at all with that much of a breathe up, for me even on my longest breathe up of 2mins when I get contractions I can barely handle them cos of the hyperventilation.

cheers

Andrew,

I don't hyperventilate during any of my breathups. I breath at a rate of 4 breath/second during every breathup. The only thing I change is the last 30 seconds.

On my first breathup I just breath normal, 4 breath/second.
Second breathup, at T - 10, I make two good purges.
Third breathup, at T - 20, I make four purges.
Fourth and final at T- 30, I make six to ten purges.

I developed this method from doing from doing 1 and a half hours of statics every day for about a month. I found that if I just did normal breathing on my first statics, I could easily manage the contractions and that it would also delay the contractions for my next static. I gradually added more purging to delay my contractions further. I found that too much purging does not help.

Everyone has different techniques to achieve the same goal. This one works for me. Hope this helps.

p.s. When I first started doing statics a year ago, my first static was about 2:30 with contractions starting at 2:00.

Cheers,

Luc

Hi Luc,
Congratulations!!
One question, do you pack at any moment, for static?

Hello Frank,

Yes, I do pack, but only on my target static. I pack just enough so that I am not uncomfortable. For me it's about ten packs.

best regards,

Luc

Hi Luc,
How much of "extra" time do you get with packing?.
In other words, do you find a big difference between PB with and without packing?

Frank,

I have tried packing to the point where I am very uncomfortable and did 7'10. Having sai that, I have also done over 7min without packing as well. I think packing is good but can work against you if you're not able get into your zone.
When I first started I would only pack 3 times. Now I pack about ten times.

Best regards,

Luc

Luc,
Is this a typo and you mean 4 breaths per minute or do you actually manage 4 breaths per second?

Very inspiring to know you started with "just" 2:30!

Adrian

hi

Luc my warm up approach is similar to yours except for the length of the breathe ups. I tend to do 6 breatholds in a row though which may be too many. With packing I do 5 packs each time my max amount is 30 so I dont overstrecth my lungs at all for static.

What is your max no packs.

I will send you a pm tommorow.

BTW what how do you find an hour and a half every day to do statics ? you must have a good job with not so long hours.

cheers

Sorry for the multiple postings. I had an itchy trigger finger during a slow connection.
Also, my breath rate should have read 4/minute instead of 4/second.

I don't do dry statics anymore but back then, I would do them before going to sleep.
Now I go to the pool once or twice a week and do an ocean dive on the weekend.

My maximum static no pack is just over 7 minutes. But I feel much better during the static if I pack.

I'm just curious Andrew (or anyone else that wish to respond), could you give me your routine and also include when your contractions start?

Best regards,

Luc

hi

Here is what I WAS doing when I had time for statics.

get up in the morning at roughly 9am totally empty stomach as in starving.

Relax on the bed for a few minutes

30sec breathe up (Hyperventilation) 4-4:15min static, contractions at 2:30-2:45

30sec breathe up, 4:30-5:00 static, contractions at 3min

1min breathe up, 5:15-5:30 static, contractions at 3:30

1min breathe up, 5:30-5:45 static, contractions at 3:45-4:00

2min breathe up, 6min static, contractions at 4:20-4:30

2min breathe up, 6min + static, contractions at 4:30-4:45

This would be a good session sometimes I give up after the first attempt cos Im not motivated to try and it would just be a waste of time.

I dont time rests in between breatholds I just start breathing up when I feel ready. With this method I managed to get to 6:30 and become stuck there. When I get some time I want to experiment with longer less aggressive breatheups.

I was writing to Tyler Z a while back and it was interesting that he said he got contractions around 4mins and held through like over 100.

cheers

Hi Andrew,

it looks to me you might want to extend your breathup a little.

I was out doing wet static at UBC's outdoor pool again tonight.

Did another PB of 7'48"

and now it's time for bed.

Cheers,

Luc

hi

Wow 7:48 wet !!! That is very impressive especially considering its a wet static. Sooo close to 8mins eh.

Next time I do statics I will try longer breathe ups

cheers

Ps when did you get contractions for the 7:48
