There must be a way to limit the poll to one vote/email address.

Also, I think the poll should be amended to include 7:00 - 8:00 and 8:00 +.

Any thoughts?

Best regards,

Luc

Luc, just start a new poll with the new parameters.
Cheers,
Erik Y.

I can't say for sure right now Luc, as I am starting a new job (3 actually). So who knows? But I love the coast more than anywhere in the world, so I'm hoping to get out there :)
I see there is no Regional Competition this September...any reason why? I know that Kirk is busy with Mandy and Marten, but I will miss not having the comp this Fall.
Cheers,
Erik Y.

hi

Yeah I think something similar happened with the greatest freediver thread :hmm

cheers

HS- I hope someone is spotting you even if you are in the tub! Congrats on breaking three minutes. Getting to five should be easy now that you have broken the three minute mark.
Jim

Right!

I've seen how easy sambas and blackouts can happen.

The only time I would feel safe pushing statics alone, is in my bed.

Way to go though. 4 minutes is just around the corner.

Cheers,

Luc

Wow, alot of info on this thread! Something I was wondering, is tingling and slight numbness in the extremities common in statics? I am fairly new to statics, (couldn't do over 2 min a month ago) and I noticed this feeling starting as tingling (around 3:00) and progressively changing to numbness (around 3:30) in my hands especially and moving up my forarms. Is this normal? If not does anyone know what it's an indication of? Like maybe imminent Samba/blackout? I'm still gunning for 4:00, but want to play it safe! :D

>.................................(or anyone else that wish to respond), could you give me your routine and also include when your contractions start?

For your information (it sounds too much like bragging), last week I did three 7 plus statics...

Tue. dry 3vent/3hold 3v/3:30h 3/4 3/4:30 3/5:00 3/5:30 3/6 3/7
Thu. dry 2v/3h 1:45/3 1:30/3 1:15/3 1/3 :45/3 :30/3 :15/3 4/7 slight samba
Fri. pool 2v/2h 3/3 4/5 all on my back 4:30/7:05 (face down). I had some trouble with a sloppy signal and my right leg moving that the coach didn't like but I had trouble with it during the static and during the night before too. That was only my third 'wet' static in over a year, very short on experience.

Warming up appears to be for the head, not the body. Also, as I get back in shape, rest isn't so important. I did a two hour aerobic bike ride on Tuesday and Thursday and a four dive warm up session with a 65 meter free immersion on Wednesday.
Aloha
Bill
P.S. Contractions start 3:30 to 4 but don't get bad until after 5. Counting them doesn't seem to work for me.

Bill,
I had no idea your statics were so good! Good job!
don

PS I guess I can’t use age as an excuse anymore.

Thanks Don
Cheese, wine, a good woman and statics. Some things get better with age.

When I grow up I want to be like Bill. I've got the good woman, and the cheese. But I don't like wine. Is that the reason I don't dive to 200 feet? Hmmm...gotta look into that.

Hi everyone,
This is the first time I've used this forum. How does everyone do such long statics? I could only do 2:00 for a long time, and have increased to 3:00 - 3:30, with a PB of 4:00. This improvement has happened suddenly in the last 3 weeks. Why did this happen?

I have learnt a lot from this forum - thanks for sharing your advice!

Hi naiad, I'm new to static too and my pbs also go up realy quick. I had a pb of 3:45 and and last week I made 4:40! I would also like to know how people can have pbs of over 6min

I would also like to know how people can have pbs of over 6min

Practice, breathing technique, lung and diaphragm expansion through packing exercises, etc., etc.. Just keep reading and working. A 55 second improvement in a week is awesome.

a few words from top

"It is possible to do 6 minutes for the first trial without hyperventilation. How? By doing it 4 times a week for 10 years." CLAUDE CHAPUIS - LOIC LEFERME (TRANSLATION BY GY…RGY BARABçS)

I am not sure if I understand the statement for its exact meaning. But if you are meaning a hyperventillation as opposed to a regular breath-up, then the following will apply quite easily.

According to my own personal experience I can say the quote is not true for everybody. After half a year of doing breath-holds I was capable of what the quote addresses. Recap: I was able to hold my breath for over 6 minutes on the first trial without hyperventilating (my understanding of what is being referred to as hyperventilation here, is the act of fast inhales/exhales for an extended period of time; clarify please if this is not your intended meaning and see the next statement below). I think the max I achieved with a regular breath-up on the first trial was 6:40 or so.

If by "without hyperventilating" you are meaning no breath-up before a breath-hold, then most people would not achieve 6 minutes, however without a breath-up I used to get contractions at 2:30 and could hold contractions for 4+ minutes. This was after about 9 months of doing breath-holds with months where I did next to none and other months where I did on average maybe 4 per week.

Hope I hit the intended meaning with one of these.
